Mate, it's a brilliant quote and I've used it before myself. I wish all clubs had that mentality.

Unfortunately with FFP it's not feasible for us. We need to increase match day revenue to remain competitive. We've caught up and overtaken our rivals in some respects on commercial and broadcast income. But match day we still lag some way behind.

It's a pipe dream to think that Sheikh Mansour is going to spend £50m expanding the stadium and slash ticket prices as a gift to the fans. In my opinion we will only expand when it makes commercial sense to do so.

Sheikh Mansour is the best owner in the history of football, we couldn't have anyone better. But he's not stupid.

In theory he did extend the ground and slash ticket prices season tickets in the new stand in most parts were £300

There are noticeably more empty seats this season than in previous years though. Whether that is down to apathy because of the team playing below par and many games being boring, whether it's a reflection of the traffic chaos around Manchester this year putting people off, or perhaps the expansion has caught up with demand, and the stadium is currently an appropriate size for our match going fan base?
=======================
If in future they do expand I really hope that City and the Council do sort out the "traffic Chaos".
On a personal beef - the closing of Grey Mare Lane at the junction with Alan Turing Way causes chaos for any fan parking around the Beswick Hub.
After the match - most traffic have to go down Albert Street (towards the city centre) and then find a way through to Ashton Old Road, through the housing estate . Meaning turns for south then west towards Alan Turing Way.
This is for any traffic trying to go East or West say towards Belle Vue , Reddish , Hyde , Stockport etc.
My suggestion to the Council would be to allow entry into Grey Mare Lane on match days - by supplying fold down posts - instead of the permanent posts that are there now.
Just outside Connel College. Which is now on the site of the old market.
The posts can be locked upright on Non-match days.

Traffic at any football club gathering 50K fans is a nightmare and City is no exception.
All in all, we have quite good transport links though, and I seriously doubt that it's the cause of some of our empty seats.
I'm not really convinced we're any worse than most other clubs, but a few clubs like Liverpool, United, and Arsenal seem to have a fair few tourist supporters that fill in any gaps at less popular fixtures - we're not quite there yet.

It could be argued that many of the tickets in the newly expanded part of the stadium are nothing more than loss leaders.

The club have gained elsewhere and as time passes the investment in the new capacity will be recouped, but it wont be recouped very quickly simply by the additional revenues from the ticket sales.

The fact that the club are desperate to be able to say they have crowds in excess of 60,000 isn't because they will be able to boast a few more million in ticket revenue. It's because to be a truly global club in the eyes of broadcasters and corporate partners (and many fans) you have to have a stadium to match that claim.

In a few short years City will, if things continue as they are going simply a top ten PL team in terms of capacity which simply isnt big enough for the top executives at City.

The ground will be expanded and all of the spreadsheets in the world wont be used to justify it. The base truth is that for City to be one of the biggest clubs in the world they have to be able to point to a stadium with well in excess of 60,000 seats and tell the world that 'when its full there's no better football stadium in sport'.

Another reason for non attendance these days is the fact you can see all the games (except some early round cup games) for free, in HD, on your telly. Same for all clubs obviously, but when faced with shit weather and potential traffic chaos, it's easy to say fuck it, I'm giving this one a miss.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before. My wife and I live in Norwich and for years we got up for as many games as we physically could. Buying one off tickets, when you can get them, was very expensive, so we bought season tickets for £700 each, calculating that if we were to get to anything above 12-14 matches a season, any games above that were effectively free.

Monday and Friday games are not possible and the recent poor weather killed two games for us.

When we know we can't attend we use the ticket exchange so that others can use our seats, but sometimes last minute problems, ill health, weather etc prevent us from doing that.

We can't be the only people who calculated that a season ticket for anything more than 12-14 games a season saves money, but it does mean that sometimes are seats are empty.

I go to see Newcastle on a regular basis and live 16 miles away. Usually home within 40 minutes of final whistle. At Etihad I am still in carpark after 40 minutes, go figure.

Unfortunately MCC want to do all the major transport developents/improvmentsju at once, or as soon as possible. Short-term pain, long-term gain.

Victoria Station, Metrolink 2nd City Crossing, Ordsall Curve, major road works throughout the city centre, Oxford Road, etc. The upshot of this is traffic chaos that impacts on matches at the Etihad, especially during the week.(rush hour) When there's an accident/crash, it only makes an already bad situation worse.

Hopefully once all the transport improments are complete, getting to and from the Etihad will be much easier and faster.
