Another reason for non attendance these days is the fact you can see all the games (except some early round cup games) for free, in HD, on your telly. Same for all clubs obviously, but when faced with shit weather and potential traffic chaos, it's easy to say fuck it, I'm giving this one a miss.

Fanatics don't usually look at the TV and think of it as an alternative! Footy is more than tele

Totally agree mate, however, there's different levels of fanaticism. I for one won't be getting home until after 2am if it goes to penalties tomorrow night. Hopefully, the club will award me with a medal :)

Thinking of TV as a reason for non-attendance is the way the Leeds owner still seems to think.

When the all-seater, Premier League and SKY started I, like nearly everyone I would say, thought it would be the end of match-going fans. Since then all the evidence suggests that TV just promotes and promotes the game, brings much more interest and many more fans. Remember those dire attendances in the 80s?

As well as all the other problems football had, lack of TV meant clubs were often out of sight and out of mind. After all nowadays anyone with half a brain can watch any game they want on the internet, but the grounds are full.

It just increases interest and desire to get to games.

Reminds me of parking at Maine Road in the nearby streets.
The look after your car offer was of course a threat to scratch the car if the appropriate tarrif was not paid in advance.

Bernard Manning joked about it saying that leaving your Doberman as a guard only brought a reply asking how good it was at putting out fires.

Happy days but we always paid the 50p insurance.
These days its the dodgy blokes wearing high vis jackets trying to charge every car a fiver just to par on a normal road. Suprised they are allowed to do it realy, no way they are getting my money.

I park so close to the ground I can see my entrance as I park up, I never leave early, always clap the team off, have a fag as I walk back to my car and am usually home in Cheadle around 20 mins after getting in my car. Never used to be that way but its all about refining your route and finding the little tricks, pretty much got mine nailed down for now. Exactly the same time for me to get too and from Neverton the other week during the chaos.

I'm not certain, but i don't see how they can be official. Unless its private land then i wouldn't have thought they can charge people for parking on a normal street.

Apart the £1 to the helpful young person who offers to "look after your car". Not bad value for over two hours work although strangely enough, they never seem to be there after the match.

Always reminds me of parking for Maine Rd. - old joke - "Can I mind your car , Mister" - you say NO - I have a pit bull in the car - reply from urchin - " can he put out a fire "
Used to park in the streets bounded by Yew Tree Lane(or road), Claremont Road. Happy days!!

Edit: just seen Silverfox post - sorry

The little sods didnt do a very good job looking after mine despite my £1 contribution.
Stolen off Santiago Street and smashed into the back of a taxi on Princess parkway - bastards!

Its a little bit like trying to do business with Russians in Moscow.
Mafia type protection rackets that demand brown envelopes, the problem is you don't know if they are the genuine ones or not so your choice is to pay none or pay them all.

About the time when City were still at Maine Road I remember going for a meal on the curry mile and parking behind some of the shops there at night. The same high viz jacketed type of person approached with a demand for parking cash. Asking do I get a receipt got a direct no, just a reassurance that the car would be safe from vandals who were known to scratch cars in that area.

If parking space was not at a premium going elsewhere would be a sensible approach but scams are everywhere when a commodity is scarce.
