Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

I seem to recall that there was a good reason other than financial to not allow the building of a new stadium some years ago ?
If so how will that constraint be resolved ?

The whole point of the campus, academy and development being built where it is so it's close to the stadium, after all the expansions and upgrades have happened the external will have a facelift and be encapsulated, i've been led to believe that's always been the case and long term plan, i'm picturing something like the Allianz

Interesting that Durban have pulled out of hosting the 2022 Commonwealth Games. I know Liverpool have expressed an interesting in stepping in however.....

Forget new lavish stadia, I'd rather ADUG dumped a load of money on public transport (underground tube)
Making it easier/quicker to get to and from Etihad.
Have all the brilliant super sized stadia you want, if I can't park at the ground and the public transport is still bobbins I won't be renewing my season ticket and I ain't alone in this one.

Not a scooby. The stadium could be turned 360 degrees? West Ham did something at Upton Park and Spurs are being very clever by building on the back of White Hart Lane.

Not so much a new site, but a stadium that we can continue playing in at the same time as the new structure knits to it?

They want the biggest stadium in Britain.
And have it facing the same way as now? Don't you mean 90 or 180 degrees?

Where is it ?

I may be interested if it's in a good position

I think youve hit the nail on the head for many Ste,the poor transport system and parking issues are a big reason a large number of supporters fuck off early or simply dont turn up at all.

Get the logistics sorted and it will make a huge difference to attendances and atmosphere IMO.

PB will confirm that ADUG did look seriously into building a new stadium back in 2008 and 2009. They'd have sited it either where the CFA now is and bought other nearby land for the Academy, or on the north car parks. The main reason it didn't go ahead was that Sport England wouldn't let us knock down the existing stadium in return for building a new, bigger and better one. We examined the possibility of reconfiguring the existing stadium for rugby, athletics and concerts while building a new one as well but concluded that the numbers didn't stack up. Of course we could simply have bought up the freehold on the stadium, which the lease gave us an option to do (with our 'rent' paid since moving in set off against the purchase price - I assume the renegotiated lease retains a similar option, but don't know for certain). However, the money for the freehold would have gone to Sport England and deprived MCC of millions over many years in 'rent' for the stadium.
