Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Just had a look through what I scribbled down. A bit messy. So some of the snippets might not be 101% accurate. But I‘ve done my best to be as accurate as possible in whatI’ve posted. :-)

In no particular order.

Taxi drop of points. Uber mentioned, but black cabs and other private cabs weren’t mentioned

The capacity of the arena has risen to 24,000+ depending on the act and the configuration of the sets. It was 23,500.

Dakteonics are doing the LED screen around the top of the arena.

The canal side bar will be open all year round not just on concert and event days.

The arena will be open 3 hours before the concert starts so people can get in early, have drinks, food and relax. OVG don’t want everyone arriving at the same time.

There will be no electronic branding inside the arena bowl when the artists are playing. The artists who they’ve spoken to have specifically asked for that. The corporate boxes will have curtains so any light, TV screens, etc can be blacked out.

There will be an internal acoustic roof. Above that will be the outer roof made up of rectangular cassettes that will be dropped into place. The roof will be sat on bearings that will move 2mills in each direction.

There will be test events once the arena is built.

There will be 120 events in the first year, rising to 150 events in the following years.

OVG will be working with City to cross train staff at the ground so they can also work at the arena if they want to do that.

In the end 1850 piles were sunk into the ground. That was one of the delays.

27,000m3 of concrete.

120,000 m3 of soil excavated.

The facade is 25,000m2.

The arena is 5 stories tall.

10,000 tons of steel.

7 cores.

Bam will do the full fit out.

Due to Covid, Brexit, and the Ukraine war costs across the arena have risen.

There are 14 roof trusses. 108 metres long.

The arena will have the biggest arena standing floor in the UK.

The plan is to not have matches and concerts at same time. If that does happen, there will be speacial measures put into place to deal with the crowds.

You will be able to use an app to order drinks and food at the bars. There will be vending machines selling beer, etc, so you don’t have to queue up. OVG is working with local food companies who will supply the food. Food will range from burgers, hotdogs, pizzas, etc, all the way up to Michelin starred food. They have employed a Michelin starred chef.

The investment in the arena is £365mill. The arena will have a £1.5bill impact on the local area. Didn’t say specifically in what way.

Lots of other snippets that I didn’t have time to scribble down.

Make no mistake take about it, regardless of how the arena looks externally, which has been questioned, it will be the best arena in the UK. Probably in Europe. As for the world, it would have to go some to beat the arenas in America.
One would hope that they use some of the acoustic aids on the roof of the North Stand

We can build all the multi stories or car parks we want, simply though the roads and layout as they are can't cope with what we have more cars will only make it worse. It will need the will and the budget for a rethink of the roads and layout. Not sure either are available with the council.
They ain’t gonna be building any multi stories so
Well we’ll disagree mate and we’ll see. Events will clash that is a certainty At the stated 150 events per year booked months in advance.
where are you going to park when that happens with the current transport and less parking offerings? at least 3-4000 extra cars will be heading to the new arena. Most car parks round the ground are full an hour before the game at present. 7000 extra city fans post extension and 24,000 arena goers will overwhelm car parks 90 minutes before an 8pm ok. And they will be charged £15 minimum for the privilege. Most people who attend night matches in particular are unable to get there for 6.30pm or earlier.
City play probably 10 night ( 7:45pm ) games a season at most - more than likely less. Almost all of these will be a Tuesday and Wednesday in maybe 4/5 months of the year.

I’m sure there will be occasions where the is a clash but it will be rare as schedulers will know what potential days to keep clear.

Yes I know gigs are arranged far in advance of the football calendar but the schedulers of the arena will know roughly to keep clear. There 200+ days when there won’t be a gig on so they can work around dates.

There is no evidence to support this though, we sell out every single game. There will be very few clashes of Arena and Etihad events and when they do the times will not be the same ie main acts at the arena playing 9-11ish.

The transport is poor but people still go week in week out with demand only getting higher.

If this was the plan it would be all over the Arena info, the Stadium expansion consultations and the extended parking zone consultation, its not because it isnt feasible.
If the acts at the arena aren't finishing until 11 pm god alone knows how anyone is going to get home!!

Its fairly straight forward to not books events on the champions league Tuesday and Wednesdays - we already know these up to end of 23/24 season. And I'd imagine the club will know the likely midweek dates long before the fixtures are announced from the FA and PL. So the club will know all potential clashes and the Arena will try and avoid these dates. There will be 215 days without an arena event. There will be hardly any clashes.

I know, they won't increase any parking, if anything it will decrease, so congestion on the roads won't really be worse, nor will it improve greatly. Only thing that will improve anything are improvements to the trams and a few park and rides. Think the main hopes are some people staying longer and more walking on improved paths. That will be about it.

Nynex had an upgrade recently, I thought.
currently going through one now,

a big thing with the new arena will be staffing, at the moment you're probably looking at around 250ish staff just to cover stewarding / security, now if they are wanting to cross train people to do football and events thats great but there is still going to be one hell of a recruitment and training drive for it as there will 100% be clashes, even if its a small cross over from Saturday Lunch time kick off to then preparing for a gig, if doors are open 3 hours pre start of the show (normal is about 90 min / 2hrs) then you're looking at staff in an hour before that... so a 19:30 start turns in to staff arriving from 15:30....

in terms of events, Harry Styles and Bruce Springsteen are in talks for first acts to play, as well as an all star Manchester launch event,
