The athletics track is used all the time by schools.

Could they not relocate the track to another part of the site and develop that area

I thought a venue like that was supposed to be used for proper events ? Hartley seems useful for schools either having to be transported to it etc

Is that still a thing, not heard anyone mention speedway for years? Went once as a teenager to Belle Vue, wasn’t for me, but then no motor sport is.

I thought that it was built for training for the Commonwealth Games?

If it is just used for school events, it would make sense to relocate it to elsewhere in the Campus and free up the land.

Chris Bray, European president of ASM Global, told Place North West that the AO Arena is “really well-prepared” to thrive in spite of Co-op Live.

Bray, who joined ASM after the two-arena saga had died down, has a different view of how the new venue will impact the existing one.

“There is more than enough content for two arenas here in the city,” he said. “Competition is good, it raises our game.

“Manchester is a powerhouse. It is the music capital of the world. I moved here two years ago and I have seen nothing but growth.”

Haha what a turnaround but then they can’t really say anything else.

Look at the content they have lined up for this year and you can see they are losing the battle for gigs already

I’m sure they will get their quota of comedians and other shows - but this residency idea that the Co Op is doing is the way forward.

21 dates between Take That, The Eagles, Liam Gallagher and The Killers in May and June is impressive.

I see plenty of derelict land and crumbling buildings near to the stadium, much of which is near to the canal.

I suspect that much of that is designated for housing but no-one is going to tell me that there is no land whatsoever available to accommodate an athletics track anywhere in East Manchester.

We’ve not even built anything on the other side in 15+ years of ownership.
