Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

I don't think it will make a significant difference to the City centre.

There will just be more events in Manchester.
Manchester Arena are being very strange about this. It’s as if they don’t know that they’re not the only venue in the city.

Have they thought that if they are hosting something at the same time as Castlefield Bowl, Manchester Academy 1 and Albert Hall, that those three will have a similar combined attendance to the Manchester Arena?

Have they thought about the attendances to gigs at Old Trafford Cricket ground or the Etihad that dwarf the Arena yet don’t affect events’ attendances at the Arena?

It doesn’t even have to be gigs neither. Manchester Arena could host Brian Cox, Lee Mack, Swimming World Championships, NBA basketball, World’s Strongest Man, boxing etc. and the city is missing out on a 20k+ music event at the same time, so the second Arena would be ideal.

That’s true sometimes but for example Bruce Springsteen has played the Etihad twice but he will be playing Leeds Arena in a few months with a quarter of our capacity.

When bands are fixing up a tour, or for any kind of touring event, there are only going to be certain dates when it's possible to fit in a gig in Manchester. If no venue is available that day, they have to go elsewhere, even if they would prefer Manchester.

If & when we leave the EU, all bands/events from outside the UK will have to make seperate arrangements for touring here, rather than just being part of a European tour.

Availablity of an extra venue, may make it more likely they continue to visit Manchester rather than just doing London & fucking off home.

I think it's more likely about them being the No1 venue, rather than whether they will stay in business.

They won't be the No 1, so they want it stopped. Bit like Utd.

Anyone care to hazard a guess as to when the club will make the big announcement? Seems like we've been waiting forever ever since the early days of the Las Vegas thread. My guess is once Puma officially take over, they will also be wanting to sponsor the new stand maybe or at least want some involvement in it.

It’s the classic free trade, capitalist argument - all’s fair until some serious competition shows up on the horizon, then its protectionism and state subsides all the way. The MEN arena know another arena is inevitable but they’ll play up to get money out out of the City Council. Already the MEN are making noises about how do they compete! Well they are the present market leader, they have the dominant market position, they are profitable and they are shitting themselves at the mere prospect of a start up! Hardly a confident, we’ll run business to behave like that.

Aye...the MEN are obvs going to stick up for the 'MEN' as it still known. Wonderful free sponsorship...masterstroke.

When there are over 80 cranes on the Manchester skyline, and towers like Deansgate Square are going up all over the city centre, and inward and international investment is pouring into the city, along with new companies, and 1000’s of new jobs, it potentially points to something special for East Manchester and the Etihad Campus via MCFC, ADUG, and the city council. Very exciting times ahead for Manchester.

Taken yesterday.
