Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Thanks for that, I concede the club may have had aspirations for such services, like everything else that’s not come to fruition for the site. Given the dire situation in the nhs with funding I can see why Salford, a foundation trust, would live to jump into bed with city. The fact it’s not happens tells all.
I would be amazed if City essentially build a private hospital delivering orthopaedic operations for the wider sporting community. But if it happens I will gladly hold my hands up, however given nothing happened in past 10 years likely tells its own story.
Diagnosis and rehab I get, but inpatient surgical facilities I’m not convinced at all. Time will tell mate

Plans do change. The planned arena was shelved along with the Super Casino, but the Arena has been resubmitted for planning.

MMU have moved on, but MCC said they're in talks with 2 replacement providers.

Everything is essentially in place for orthopaedic operations, but this was to be linked to a Hospital Trust. It's only the hospital trust which seems to be missing.

However, as pointed out previously, there was a huge spread last week in the MEN where Richard Leese stated how pissed off everyone was with MMU, but the plans will still go ahead with other prospective partners.

There's no need to be holding your hands up if the plans don't come to fruition, as I won't be holding my hands up if they don't. The point I was making is that the Bridgewater Hospital is tiny & was isolated away from other medical facilities.

CFA is huge, & still has huge scope for expansion, so if orthopaedic operations can be carried out at the private Bridgewater Hospital, is it too much of a stretch of the imagination to say the same couldn't be done at CFA?

I have no doubts about CFA doing operations if they wished, as you say there are many little private hospitals doing so, but they are treating everything which keeps them viable. By that I mean maintaining the standards and staff required to maintain a service. If City are willing to do likewise and essentially invite local orthopaedic surgeons to practice out of CFA then fair enough. The involvement of Hope then leads to the nhs using the facility which lowers the ‘private’ standard of care. So it essentially become bridgewater or cheadle royal in city surroundings. This isn’t the vision city had in the statement you presented of being a world class surgical training unit doing top sportsman’s injuries, which I just don’t see as viable, with my clinician hat on, for many reasons.

In my view the club need to push forward with building the arena next to the stadium and use the O2 (in London) development as a template. This would ensure the Etihad campus is being used seven days a week. It would put East Manchester on the map. A top football stadium, arena, cinema, restaurants, shops and top class hotel. Perhaps fans could also climb the Etihad and take in the views of the stadium and all sides of wider Manchester. I suspect after the disappointment of losing the education partner will make the club and council push forward in create something that will draw in other partners that will help the area fulfil its true potential. Build a top class lankmark with things to do and the people and other businesses will come.

I don’t really see the point in adding restaurants, shopping centre, cinema - all of that is in the city centre already. If you are going to put anything there make it unique and not the same as we already have.

I think blueloon was focusing on an indoor arena with some shops. The Club will have a good idea if there demand for the arena because the development needs to be sustainable. Unique can be good but the B of the Bang was unique and it was a liability within months of being built.

...and could we call this arena 'The David Silva Arena' so that our favourite son will live forever in our minds!
