Not sure about that but they took the full allocation so they must've been reasonably confident of shifting them. I think if they'd returned the 3rd tier then it would've been on sale by now to City fans
I would be amazed because Fuham usually only fill one to two blocks maximum. Perhaps they all want to see the Viking God.

Wonder if they’ll ever do a new exterior?

Liverpool are expanding the Anfield Road stand without closing the 1st and 2nd tier.

Slightly off topic. I took the pictures when I went to the game.

Liverpool are adding an extra 6000 seats.

If City go to 60,000, an extra 8000 (safe standing) seats will be added. Ideally City will go bigger. 65,000 would be good, adding 13,000 extra (safe standing) seats.

No chance of 65k. 6-8k at most for a third tier or expanded second tier. Safe standing gives no capacity gains either since it’s 1:1.

If they do an expanded tier then I could see all that large upper section being safe standing but with the bottom tier being the family stand. Is that ideal if we’re creating a proper City end though?

From the club....

City are hoping to start the groundwork on the NS expansion this summer.

Work can begin while the arena is still under construction.

It will not be a 1 tier kop. The club want to extend back from level 2 to create a huge atmospheric end, but depending on planning permission and costs would fall back on a SS replica with three tiers.

They will build a hotel into the stand, which would extend right back into City square and also include the club shop.

City are also procuring the old Mercedes garage, but I'm not aware of what the plans are for that site yet.
Great news and this exact info was posted last week on here but There was an other poster on here who said the Mercedes’ had already gone to one of them flip out or similar places and seemed quite knowledgeable about it .
Hope you are correct but the other guy seemed to know his onions about the Merc showroom

I’d say it is ideal. There’s no where else to create a proper home end. It might be a good thing having kids/ families near some noise as well.

Two ends of the stadium creating noise

Yeah I'm aware of that mate (great pics though).

I mean logistically whether we can do the same and tie in to create a larger 2nd tier without closing it for a period. With the roof structure it is one hell of a job! Easier if a new tier, connecting the 2 together could take more time and cause an issue potentially but I am sure they would manage and push a contractor to deliver. We shall see! Good to hear an expanded 2nd tier is on the cards still...it is what the forums discussed years ago (2018iirc).

The main driver will be return on investment. They'll need to get planning permission unless they stick to current plans but I would imagine they will want to reconsider in order to maximise hospitality offering as that's the best way to get the money back quickly. The money from hospitality can probably deliver 80% of matchday revenue and offset cheaper tickets. If we do expand the NS 2nd tier (and looking into it in more detail I think it would be possible over the summer without disruption) they'd likely have to provide boxes at the top of the 2nd tier or top of 1st tier with revised proposals.

With the club store/hotel being talked about it could be one hell of a stand!

It’s an 18-24 month job.

SSL3 holds 6000. NSL2 would have to have a bigger capacity than that otherwise the NS redevelopment would be the same as the SS redevelopment. The whole point of expanding the NS & NSL2 is to create a bigger home end. A minimum capacity for NSL2 should be 10,000.

Sorry.

Thanks.

Architects and construction companies can design and build anything. It really all boils down to City's ambitions for the NS, City Square, the souvenier shop, etc, and whether or not they are prepared to spend the money to make it happen.

The return in investment will happen. That isn't a problem or an issue. The club has a 250 year lease on the Etihad which includes expansion and redevelopment of the Etihad. An expanded NS and the expnded SS will pay for themselves at some point in the future. It's a long ball game.(excuse the pun)

This isn’t possible. There’s no point throwing around fantasy figures without any realistic logic to them.

We’ll be looking at 60-62 thousand, with the bigger figure being if they can squeeze some extra seats in somewhere.

The South Stand third tier is as big as it physically can be due to the restriction of the original cable net. An expansion to the north stand is going to be very similar in the amount of seats being added due to those same restrictions.

The corners are off limits for the most part since the cable net comes in through both of them and the rest of the cable net feeds through the gap between the top of the stand and the roof. It means the top of any expansion can’t be any bigger than what the South Stand offers because the cable net won’t feed through if it’s any taller.

Makes me feel queezy seeing that shit hole on this site

Cannot see how it can possibly be more that 6000 seats. Which would mean - 58500 capacity instead of over 60k.

It will have to be an almost carbon copy of the South Stand due to cable net and not losing any capacity whilst it’s built

62,000 is an extra 10,000. ;-)

10,000 is 2000 more than the 8000 you suggested.

Neither figures are fantasy fighres. Both are douable.

A minimum expansion of the Etihad should be 60,000. 8000 more than the current capacity give or take.

The proposed original completed final expansion capacity was 62,000 before City removed 2000 seats for the larger led advertising boards.

Head on the chopping block. In my opinion the NS expansion should take the Etihad capacity to 60,000-62,000.It shouldn't be less than 60,000. Hopefully we'll find out in the coming months or next year?

I was thinking 54k seats plus 6k expansion for 60k. If they can find space for 2k more somehow then great but it’ll be extremely tough.

The corners are off limits for the most part since the cable net comes in through both of them and the rest of the cable net feeds through the gap between the top of the stand and the roof. It means the top of any expansion can’t be any bigger than what the South Stand offers because the cable net won’t feed through if it’s any taller.

They’d be looking at adding more seats on the ends of the side third tiers and perhaps over the access tunnel to try and boost the numbers. I’d imagine we’ll be just over 60k with anything else being a bonus.

I’m not sure the cable net is such a restriction. At the moment the original towers are partially within the stand at their base. There’s no reason why they couldn’t be fully within the North stand. On the South stand the original cables enter above the third tier. There’s no reason (apart from complexity and cost) those cables could not enter through a hole in the concrete tier itself, which would allow it to extend much further back.

Obviously, viewing would be affected by the cable net for those seats higher up, but they could be sold at a reduced price. Eventually the cable net will go, once the side stands are expanded.

It’s not ideal but it could be done.

I think anything is possible within reason and budget.

6000 extra seats added to the current NL2 capacity would take the Etihad capacity to 58,000. Not enough in my opinion.

8000 extra seats added to the current NL2 capacity would take the Eithad capacity to 60,000. The club may feel that's enough? That would be the current SSL3 added on to the current NSL2 with an additional 2000 seats. Impressive in size?

I'd like to see 10,000 seats added on to the current NL2. That would look great. That would take the Etihad capacity to the original proposed 62,000.

when the SS was done there were also extra seats put in right at the front most of the way around - worth about 2K all on their own - capacity went from a theoretical 48,000 to a theoretical 55,000. So I reckon a North Stand duplicate would only add another 5500 tops to get us to a theoretical 60,500'ish - I have posted the sums with associated diagrams elsewhere in this thread including an option to rebuild the entire roof so the east and west stands can stertch up to the same as the north and south AND the upper corners are also filled in - the numbers got to over 70,000 at this point

That klanfield road stand extension is garbage, just like the other monster built next to it - just a jumble of unmatched steel and brick - they'll claim it'll be the best stadium in the land but clearly it will remain bodged shi^t!
