Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

There have been many nails in the coffin for me. 9 continuous season ticket price rises was one of them. The 10th price rises was shelved, and season ticket prices were frozen because of the blacklash from the fans over the CL home match ticket prices. Can't remember who the match was against. Think it was Real Madrid? Stand corrected on that.

For me the nail that sticks out was the greedy and cynical price tiering of blocks and rows of seats in each stand. A horrible, divisive, but subtle manouver by the club to generate more match day revenue by stealth.

PSG 2016 QF was the offending one.

The lower range ST prices are still very good.

Match day pricing is a disgrace and compounded by this dynamic pricing bollocks when the price changes 3 times in the 2 or 3 weeks to match day.

I may be wrong, the dynamic pricing is a new thing this season and this is the bit I'm unsure of, think it may have been suggested by City Matters as a way of filling unsold seats.

Anyone who thought that Mansour/ADUG bought City for football reasons in 2008 had their head in the sand. We're seeing a similar level of fan euphoria at Newcastle now. We choose to believe what suits our own personal agenda, and disregard the rest.

City = Abu Dhabi
Newcastle United = Saudi Arabia
2022 World Cup.... Need I go on...?

As outrageous as it sounds, Klopp's recent comment about teams playing against countries is far closer to the truth than traditional football fans would like to believe. It's not about football, it's about raising profiles by jumping on populist bandwagons and making more money.

It was later than 2008 before I came wise to it. Remember it was sold to us to start with as a private investment from a fabulously wealthy Sheikh. That was effectively the line they pushed

Human rights criticisms didn't really takeoff to about 2012 I think..

Doesn't that go for most owners of most clubs. As fans we don't know the motivation of most owners, but raising one profile or another will be a big part, only a few owners are long term fans of the clubs they own.

If the lower Family Stand tier went to standing as suggested earlier, I would keep it as non STicket. £25 adults £10 kids on sale from a few weeks before game. Bet you would get a right atmosphere in there!
Unfortunately we won’t be buying £100 million players at those ticket prices.

Agree about the atmosphere though.

You don't buy the argument despite the fact our own bloody CEO said we were a front for Abu Dhabi (soft power, geopolitics and a long-term investment fully aligned with the objectives of the emirate including make a shit ton of money)

You been told this a few times with explanations and evidence yet still you are in a weird denial. I don't get it.
And you believe that Newcastle backers are an investement group with no link to the Saudi royal family?

Bollocks, The Saudi's have bought Newcastle, just as Abu Dhabi and the Sheik bought us.

So what? Football and the world has evolved.

Once the rich local business man would buy his local club and use it to polish his ego.

Then came along the likes of Littlewoods who bought Liverpool and transformed them into winners.

I don't get what the issue is with country's taking over major sporting clubs is, it's progression, globalization, call it what you want.

I know who I would rather have owning my club, a rich Sheik rather than a TV rental salesman that's for sure.

Human Rights was a convenient stick to beat City with when it became apparent to the media that ADUG weren't going to get 'fed up' as they had predicted.

Abu Dhabi are constantly looking to invest and expand around the world. Football turned out to be a convenient vehicle in 2008.
Manchester, with a new football ground, used by an established club, and a council open to development investment in the run-down local area, was an opportunity not to be missed. I suspected it was a 'land grab' as soon as I heard that they were investing in a sport other than horse racing.

Pretty much the same as investments in New York, Melbourne, etc. It's not a love of football or tradition, it's just business. Sentiment is for suckers.

ADUG don't care whose arse is on a seat at any match as long as the customer pays the going rate for it.

City could let kids in for free and still make money.

The big deals aren't funded by ticket sales. Player wages aren't.

Advertising, TV and sponsorship is where its at.

Our match day income is far behind the other top clubs, it needs to increase.
