An interesting idea but will never happen, people with season tickets largely feel a sense of ownership of ‘their seat’ and also the community of people they sit around.
That is so true @LongsightM13. I once told Danny Wilson, in conversation, that the seat where I am now 'belonged' to me and there was no way I was moving!! Plus the camaraderie round us is great, a lot of them were invited to my 70th birthday party, which of course was 10 years ago and we are almost all still together!
 
This is part of the problem with the atmosphere at most all-seater stadia IMO.

People get used to, and settle in to, one seat and the group around them.

The best two atmospheres I've experienced at the new ground are Hamburg, where everyone was mixed up and Chelsea for the first game in the brand new SS3. The noise that day up there was incredible and everyone loved it, but it has never once been replicated. To me that's because everyone settled in and got comfortable.

I'd buy a SC that gave me a new spot every time as I like/prefer variety and although I get on with those around me in SS3, there's also the feeling of same old-same old. Whenever there's a cup game I try to reallocate, just for the change of scene.

To me, all Blues are my community. Not just the people I happen to sit near.
Interesting points all of them and I agree with much of it. But will never happen here

You can do that without 'bothering' other people though can't you? We get a chance in the renewal window to change seats if we want to.
All Blues are my community as well. Not just the ones who attend matches but those who support us and can't afford either the time (working) or the money. I tried every area of the ground before I settled on CBL1 Row A. :-)

How about when the music comes on the speakers everyone has to get up & run around & when it stops you just grab the nearest seat? ok there would be a few spilt flasks & dropped rugs in some sections but it would stir things up a bit,
Also if the club threated to shoot anyone leaving before the final whistle without a very good excuse it should discourage some early leavers? (not all obviously)

You'd stay in the same community under what I proposed though. Everyone would just be moved closer together to create more pools of empty seats.

Shifting everyone back to accommodate my plan would just create more room for banners and flags. Another way of doing it is shifting everyone on a row, who's attending the game to one side and leaving the empty seats on the other side.

That way you go from this example (where 0 represents a filled seat, and _ represents an empty one):

0 0 _ 0 0 0 _ 0 _ 0 0 0 _ 0 0

To this:

0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 _ _ _ _

Then a family of four can buy seats together on the end of that row. Or four students who fancy going to their first City game can sit together etc.

There is a reason SSL3's away section appeals to more match day fans compared to the single seats dotted around the rest of the ground.

This is block 107 for the Brugge game. There aren't two tickets next to each other - so if I wanted to take my Grandad with me I couldn't sit there. That might be enough to put me off going to the game.

Move everyone who is going to the left.

Then it would look like this:

If you shifted everyone to the left, you now have a seats toghether (highlighted yellow). If you moved everyone up the block, the whole front row (highlighted red) becomes available for banners, advertising or if the demand is there... FANS!

"Same ol' same ol' ", anathema to some, favoured by many.
To me, yet another block to achieving a majority concensus, too many variables,from unpopular fixtures to blockbusters, the variety of tickets and cards, kick-off times, and many factors beyond the club/fans control. As a reluctant cynic, I doubt the board pay little more than lip service to the situation. Or even care, tbh

These ideas are good and if there is resistance to people’s seat being different game by game then the compromise is group season ticket holders together then leave entire sections available for match day buyers rather than let season ticket holders pick any seat they want thus leaving odd seats dotted around here and there for sale.
 
What used to happen in the 60s and 70s was that some areas of Maine Road were just unallocated seats (like the Platt Lane End). You paid at the gate and sat where you wanted as the stand filled up. In the Maine Stand (prices were higher) and you got the same seat each week. I suspect that these days security reasons would prevent this happening but it allowed mates to sit together and to turn up on the day.
