Not sure price is the issue. It’s the lack of trams that is the big problem.When 50k+ people leave a venue simultaneously, we have to expect a bit of congestion. There is a glaringly obvious issue though when public transport is the expensive option.
If public transport was included in the match ticket price and they increased the surge capacity for events like football matches, far more people would be inclined to use it, which would benefit the environment and local communities hugely.

Yes, the OS is awful to get away from. But at least you have the shopping centre. Whenever I've been I've booked into a restaurant post-match to let the queues die down (not ideal if you're rushing for the last train back from Euston though).Our problem is no where as bad as what West Ham have got down in Stratford. Could it be that our problem is not really as bad as some people perceive it to be?
Our issues aren't as bad. But we shouldn't be using arguably the worst stadium in the PL as a comparison. We should look at the stadiums that deal with queues and wait times better and compare ourselves to them.
The be-all and end-all though, is that when 55k people leave a venue at the same time, there is going to be congestion. If you go for a day out, and you're happy to wait it's only a small inconvenience.

I'd feel less irritated about the lack of trams if I hadn't paid a fiver to use them though lol.Not sure price is the issue. It’s the lack of trams that is the big problem.

There need to be a proper survey around this. I personally love the walk from the Stadium to Station, but I understand that it is not always an option for all supports. Perhaps the club need to do more to encourage fans to stay at the stadium after the game. It worked well at Brighton a couple weeks ago as there fans can wait in the shelter of the stadium rather than in the dark, damp and cold condition which are going to be with us through the winter months.You don't provide extra services by making it all free, someone has to pay for it and transport in this country is a rip of charging 16 year olds full adult prices. So unless the club want to fork out a 6 figure subsidy for each game nothing will change.

Yes, buses aren't the answer unless there can be a dedicated bus lane that's kept clear, and like the trams there would need to be a lot of buses to make a dent in the sheer amount of cars on the road trying to get away.Introduced? There may well be an answer but the ground location doesn't provide an easy and cheap answer, it would need a huge infrastucture investment.

Brighton and Southampton games had a normal Saturday service ie no extra trams to take thousands of people all leaving the Etihad.
First match we decided to walk. I'm very slowmy feet but we were nearly at Kensington stop before the first packed solid tram overtook us. People would not even be able to get on at the intermediate stops. Absolutely hopeless for football and non football travellers.
Second time we got a free bus. Queues well organised and quick to board but it's slow because of traffic.
Last time I went to the Swamp we got a train quickly from City end but were soon away right onto Piccadilly Station. Overwhelming feeling that the rags demand and get a better service from GMPTE than us.

How the hell will that be done given the mess that is the deregulated Greater Manchester bus services. It would have been straightforward in the 1970s when we had an integrated Greater Manchester bus operator but not with the current mess operators trying to cut each other’s throats.Integrate event tickets with local transport operators.
I don’t know enough about the situation in Brighton or in Germany to comment. I do know that it could certainly be done in Edinburgh where most of the bus services are provide by the Council owned Lothian Transport run the buses and in London where the bus services continue to be regulated.
