Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

ASM Global, the operator of the 27-year-old city-centre venue, is pushing ahead with redevelopment plans in response to the creation of a rival £300m arena in Eastlands.

When both indoor arenas are redeveloped and built, Manchester will have the 2 biggest capacity indoor arenas in Europe.

The £50m project will “dramatically enhance” the venue and boost its capacity from 21,000 to 24,000, ensuring it remains the largest arena in the city.

Great stuff! The Manchester Arena needs a proper refurb, both in and out. Will be great to have the best two arenas around in this city.

Would also like to see a new mid-size venue added to the squad n’all. The Apollo is proper dated now and doesn’t have the best sound.

Slightly off topic.

A new entertainment venue for before and after the match.

City are facing a lot of competition on their doorstep in and around the NQ, Ancoats, and New Islington.

It will be interesting to see whether people stay on at the Coop Live Arena for drinks and food after the acts and events are over, or if they head back into town?

Hospitality company Very Inc has lodged a planning application to create a 3,000-capacity venue, featuring a beer hall and night market, at the former Presbar Diecasting Foundry on Store Street.

  • Office and creative spaces for art and technology start-ups
  • A beer hall selling a large variety of beers from small local breweries
  • Night market – designed to be an immersive experience that includes a mixture of immersive entertainment, with circus and theatre performers and themed market stalls
  • A garden featuring two shipping container bars, four pergolas, and a 1,550 sq ft tent
  • A bakery
  • Seven spaces for small retailers
  • A gym featuring free weights, CrossFit and boot camp sessions
  • Private hire function room
  • 29 new electric vehicle charging points
  • Improvements to Paradise Walk between Store Street and Ducie Street.
That looks more like a direct competitor to Freight Island/Mayfield Depot than us tbf. Handy for those arriving via Piccadilly though

This extended residents parking scheme makes no sense at all, for instance, the stretch of Clayton Lane between Ashton New Road and Wilson Street is unrestricted at present,(there is no need for residents parking at this location because there are no residential or business properties). They are proposing to introduce restrictions on Clayton Lane which will stop all match day parking next season.

The owners need to crack on with the North stand, was in a very rural part of Ireland yesterday and I saw at least 20 City shirts on a training field about 80 kids, the kids were all under 10. Shirts numbers on a par with the scousers. Unheard of when I arrived here 18 years ago.

No they don't
If anything they should be reducing capacity as less supporters will be able to get to the stadium when the new parking restrictions are applied

Not much use if they aren't coming over on matchday

Thanks for raising this Barney and hellocity….

I can’t walk very far due to being a not so very F.O.C. On a good day I jump in the car, me or up to 4 of us and park outside the red border and inside the new blue one. Outside the new blue border is too far. On a bad day i take the tram from Ashton. On the way there it’s great, on the way back it’s shite and I have to let one tram go to ensure that I get a seat on the next one (my choice). It’s worse for those going back into town even though they get more trams.

1. They’ve got to improve the tram service after the match or find somewhere to stack them.

2. Get a train stop sorted, there’s a loop close by ( someone will tell me the why nots).

3. A match day metrolink pass is £74, off peak fare is. £3.10 return, (zone 2 &3) so that’s 24 games needed. There are 19 PL + 3 CL games guaranteed. Remainder to be made up from max 3 CL knockout, 4 home fa cup ties and 4 home Carabao ties IF we get through CL and get drawn at home in domestic comps.
It’s simply not worth it for me and only worth it for those that have to travel through at least 3 zones.

So, come on City, you want to be offering metrolink passes for less than £50.

4. My other option is pay to park £8/ £10 official, maybe cheaper with one of the fly by nights surrounding the ground adding up to £152 on to my season ‘match experience’ from street parking.

Rant over!

Came back from Co. Kerry the same year you moved to Ireland, had been there 13 years. Only knew 2 other blues, there were nearly as many supported Charlton Athletic :-)

Could be wrong?

Think the Covid testing centre on the back car park is going?
