Was at the stadium for the tour yesterday so got some staff gossip. They said City square and perhaps the shop will go and be incorporated with the new North Stand which may be linked to the arena to make an indoor food and drinks set-up. That was in addition to the arena foyer. This will happen in stages over a few years. Just gossip but from two different people. The tour was superb.

Hope the shop goes, far too small for purpose now

How times have changed from the corner shop we had at Maine Road. Four or five punters and it was crowded

It’s been stated that the Atrium will be available to City fans on match day.

The Atrium has a 4000 capacity so would be a great pre match venue. This could help if City Square is closed during Nortj Stand development.

Will be interesting to see what the future plans are for City Square. In my opinion they should knock it down - incorporate the shop in the new Northstand and use the Arena facility

What would we use when there’s a simultaneous event on at the Arena?

There’s a huge amount of space between tiers 2 and 3 in the South Stand used for 93:20, Legends Lounge and Ardwick.

I doubt we’d want corporate of that level or capacity in the north stand extension so the space could be for a club shop and indoor social club perhaps.

Can anyone remember what year they changed the social club into the new shop? Late-90s but can’t remember exactly when.

The old souvenir shop was a lot better than what we have at the moment. To much clothing and footwear. The old shop concentrated on souvenirs and nick nacks to buy


the shop at the moment does not have enough cheap souvenir for the ordinary fan to spend his pocket money.

1994/95, i think... but I was just about a teen so don't quote me.. I remember buying a pencil tin and my Dad saying we were in a bar. It was confusing

Aren't those plans now irrelevant?

The planning permission time scale is long gone, a complete redesign would be required and I though Khaldoon had confirmed that.

Securing new planning permission would be a formality on the existing design… might need a refresh to accommodate any changes to building regs etc.

About right I would say. Was all in the Franny Lee era. Initially he was blaming Swales for franchising it to a utd fan for peanuts and then he couldn't get him out So would have taken a year or two to sort out from when he came in as Chairman.

Eddie Phillips bought the rights off Swales for the old badge, 50k I seem to remember, both were horrible men.

I think coincided with the release of the home kit with the stripy collars. that was Def the year the original Armadale shop anyway.

OK geeze the shop and the badge. Probably why we got the Superbia badge.
