Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

I have no knowledge of construction, but why can't we design/build something on the site of the blue car park?

There must be a way to build something on top of a large car park (like the emirates stadium for example). Could they not stick a huge building with a hotel, office space, flats, bars/restaurants on that land whilst ensuring there are still X thousand car parking spaces underneath?

In terms of housing, the ambition to take further the joint working with the Abu Dhabi United Group is obvious and the area represents a clear opportunity to bring forward a high volume of the affordable homes that Manchester requires. Riverpark Road, Beswick, New Islington and Miles Platting are all mapped out as areas prime for the development of new affordable housing.

Shhh Miggy thinks this is housewashing.

Perhaps City are interested in the Mercedes site but the owners may be being money grabbing whores and asking for exorbitant money - it wouldn't be the 1st time, remember our red friends in areas where the academy site is. Not sure but didn't the council agree a compulsory purchase order in the end at less than City had already offered.

If they are money grabbing whores they should open the car park on match days. They could easily fit about 250 cars on there. £10 a go - not bad money for about 4 hours work.

Re the Rag who wouldn't sell and tried to sell off 1 metre square bits of land to thwart the development.
The Council in cahoots with City made access to the property very difficult, roadworks, road closures, Lights, one way system, terrible behaviour -;) it did the trick.

That's where they intend to build the multi storey. Most other car parks will be lost to future developments

I think a lot of stuff isn’t communicated properly either with regards to public transport. It’s hard enough for locals but for people from further afield it must put them off. Things like car park info, tram info is sometimes tricky to decipher. I’ve tried more than once to google info about a phantom bus that goes from Bury to The Etihad for every home game; I even see people stood, as if waiting for it, near The Beehive and The Bluebell, but I can never find info on it!! Does it exist?! We’d catch it I think.
There’s a thread about Bury. Is it this one.

There is a privately run double decker bus that goes to every home game. It leaves about an hour and 3/4 prior to kick off. Was a £5 return fee. Price may have gone up now. It leaves from Moss St outside the Art gallery.
Hope this helps.

You know how blessed are we now compared to yesteryear when in the singing in the rain stand. Now look at us now with a state of the art stadium.
It's good, could be better and 20 years ago might have been state of the art, no longer though.

Don't forget, until recently there was little or no wifi in the stadium !

Thanks for that. Will look into it. Cheers.

The first pieces of cladding look promising.

Did a construction picture update of the arena this afternoon. Includes pictures of the very tall exterior cladding mock-up. I’ll post the pictures later on.

Slightly off topic.

Interesting snippet from an article about Chelsea’s new owners plans to redevelop Stamford Bridge, which will begin this year with new plans.

Blues co-owner Jonathan Goldstein.

He added: 'We've had three sovereign wealth funds say to us at the moment, the United Kingdom is on hold. They'd rather watch, and watch and wait. Britain looks uninvestable at this point.'

This ‘from the horses mouth’ though im sure most will know this info

North stand extension starts as soon as the arena is finished
It will mirror the south stand (no ‘yellow wall’)
It will incorporate hotels and eateries etc and the superstore.

City square and the superstore will go in its current guise but will be re-done.
Superstore within the stand, square pushed further back.

There will be eatery/bar links to the arena from the stadium

Probs a titanic post this but got told on saturday by a man who knows

Oh and city bought that merc garage and that will be hotel/housing
