Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

It was previously known as the Cardroom Estate. I wonder what name they'll come up with for Tripe Colony.

I meant pre cardroom estate...

Thank you that was a really interesting read.

Yeah, I always thought New Islington was an old name and 'according to Wiki...':

History[edit]

The name "New Islington" is recorded at least as early as 1817[1] and appeared on the 1840 Ordnance Survey map. There is also a street bearing the name.[2] The name was still current in the 1960s and 70s, there being at the time, a New Islington swimming baths, New Islington Primitive Methodist church, and New Islington Conservative club. However, the name for the area fell out of usage. From its attempted regeneration in the 1970s to its current redevelopment it was known as the Cardroom Estate. It was one of several millennium village projects around seeking to regenerate inner-city areas. The name New Islington was also the local residents' choice of name for the area when the prospect of regeneration was raised.[citation needed]

Great find. Learnt to swim there. Happy days.

I’d never heard it until the tram service was created
I dont think people not from east manchester where too bothered about it till more recent times..holt town would have been another prior to the tram sign ( never mind The Don)...new cross not so much cause of shop signage..

New Islington Hall (also known as New Islington Public Hall), venue for the Newton Heath FC creditors and shareholders meeting in 1902 when the club was rescued by John Henry Davies, Harry Stafford and fellow businessmen and re-named Manchester United FC.

Just noticed with Wembley and the 02 in London both have outlet stores attached to developments with
02
Wembley

Both have restaurants and other leisure activities as well

The nearest outlet village to Manchester is Chesire Oaks

"Manchester Designer Outlet "

Agree.

The last thing we need is another (mini) retail park on the Collar site.

The unofficial plan/proposal for the Collar site has always been for a world class leisure destination.

Hard to miss?

Not much different to the Arndale centre of Print Works etc. More to do with the increased housing shooting up all around the ground, rather than getting fans into Haribo World. Some of the restaurants don't serve alcohol too, and Chicken Hotdogs.
