Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Wow. Thanks jrb. I know it's been done to death, but the Asda does stick out like a sore thumb!

My Dad was from round there and I played Sunday league on shit pitches there back in the early 70's. What a transformation.

It is one of the best sporting campuses in the UK, if not in Europe and the world, bar Olympic funded sports campuses.

You mean pictures like these 2?

A couple of years old. The Coop Live Arena is under construction. The gas tower is still standing.

The Google Maps satellite image is from about the same time as the first picture. If City can grab those former gas holder land parcels it gives them a lot of wriggle room in the future.

wish they'd build a multi story car park maybe away from ground but something to help the motorist
Use the Ancoats Hub when it opens. Keep that secret to yourself before everyone else finds out about it and starts using it.

The Ancoats Mobility Hub is an innovative project that supports the future development of the Poland Street area. The Hub provides spaces for resident and visitor parking, taking vehicles off local roads, as well as proving sustainable transport options in a community setting alongside the fully refurbished Ancoats Green. This next-generation multi-storey car park will hold space for 406 cars, 150 bicycles, car share vehicles, a parcel delivery hub, café, store, and nearly 15,000 sq ft of public realm.

406 Total Spaces
102 Electric Car Charging Spaces

Opens on the 7th of May.

£9 for 4 hours.
£6 for 2 hours.

I think this is news. MCR property group has acquired land around the Etihad and new arena (including the former gasworks) to build housing https://www.insidermedia.com/news/n...close-to-etihad-with-potential-for-2000-homes .
No train station then? Boooo.

Hopefully though they will make a pedestrian walkway from the L shaped parcel of land next to the big car park to make a more direct route to the proposed Sandhills tram stop. There’s a tunnel already under the train line which might be usable.

Not heard of it either but here's a link with a little info. Not a good day for the Metrolink. Currently all trams in Manchester are stuck without power.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandhills_tram_stop
It’s progressing at the usual snail’s pace. It’s only really of benefit to those on the Bury line as it would be the same walk to it as it is to Piccadilly but means avoiding the city centre congestion. I calculate 1.4 miles walk to each of Piccadilly, Central Park (Oldham line) or Sandhills. We’re not getting anything else.

It might not even go ahead yet or be designed to handle loads of football fans but the plans for that area did mention a tram stop and walking routes to the campus.
