Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

Bam nets £100m Manchester City FC training facilities deal.

Bam Construct has beaten Carillion, Laing O’Rourke and Bowmer & Kirkland to Manchester City FC’s £100 million training facilities project.

CN revealed in April that the four contractors were all eying up bids for Manchester City’s new world-class training facilities.

The club has submitted plans for 15 pitches and a 7,000 seat stadium as part of a youth development and training centre to sit opposite their Etihad Stadium....

I thought B & K were favourites as they were the main contractors for the FA St George's complex.

Wasn't that long ago B & H would've been involved in some capacity...at least supplying ash trays for the players lounges.

Any idea how the St George's complex compares to the City's campus? On par? Less 'fantastico'?

Somone said that we learned a lot of valuable lessons from there, positive and negative. No Hilton connection at the Etihad though, maybe some other hotelier will be involved. There is a thought that it has been created to replicate Clairefontaine, just as that facility has failed to deliver the goods for the French national team.

Thanks - I'm guessing it's one of the myriad academies/complexes we've studied over the past few years, nitpicking the positives overall then.

Also on anoter site.

BAM is believed to have netted the contract to build a new training academy for Manchester City’s youth team.

Sources close to the project said Bam appears to have the job in the bag after fighting off competition from Carillion, Laing O’Rourke and Bowmer & Kirkland.

One said: “Nothing has been made official yet but our understanding is that Bam has won.”

The contractor declined to comment on the academy contract.

Plans at the site on land next to the Etihad stadium include:

•A home for up to 400 young players who will train and study alongside senior players, with a clear development pathway to the first team
•One half size and 11 full size youth development pitches
•One half size and 4 full size first team pitches
•On site sleeping accommodation and classroom facility for 40 young players to allow them to train and study in a safe and secure environment
•A carefully planned first team building with changing rooms, gym, refectory and injury and rehab centre
•A 7,000 capacity stadium for youth matches
•Staff offices and a dedicated media centre
•A bridge linking the site to the Etihad Stadium and the rest of the Etihad Campus
