Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

There are enough local fans to fill a big big stadium, as always it's about price.

We got 84,569 in 1934 when we had nothing but local fans because football was a sport affordable to everyone. Of course there is the great United/City divide now whereas fans of each often used to go to each others games, but no one can convince me if we charged a fiver per ticket we might not get monstrous crowds at the Etihad. All down to pricing.

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

90% of empty seats are sold seanson tickets who dont make it for one reason or other,if we had 50 thousand season tickets up for grabs they would sell, build it and they will come.

the kevin costner argument works for me

Whoever is in charge of this project should consider communication! Maybe there isn't a project and we are way ahead of ourselves due to misinformation.

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

City could make a killing and a mockery of this FFP by expanding the stadium to 80,000 and selling the season tickets to Supporters Club branches at full price.

These Supporters Club branches could set up as registered charities (football supporters foundations) and receive donations (Royal folk in Dubai) from anyone (with complete legality) to assist their activities of bringing affordable football to the impoverished people of Manchester. They could then distribute these tickets at a loss from what they originally paid at an affordable price for the masses. Eg £300 adult, £150 child.

All good stuff!

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

The timing of any annoucement is all important, if plans were revealed now (and I'm sure they're in place) the media would rip us to shreads if we don't win a trophy this season. If we win the cup, retain the league or at least run United to the wire then the momentum will be there to annouce plans for expansion.

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

I believe the last home league game to not sell out was Fulham in March 2011, a large batch of tickets were returned by Fulham less than a week prior to the game, WBA last year the same thing happened and i believe it sold out on the day and i think possibly Villa this year the same happened.

I'm staggered that some people on here repeat the red mantra about us not selling out, the empty seats primarily in the family stand are in virtually every case those of season ticket holders who for whatever reason have not attended that particular fixture, other could possibly be supporters moving from their seat and 'doubling up' in 111 or other sections. I sit in the 3rd tier of the Colin Bell stand and the seat next to me has been empty for every game bar the derby, i moved to this section this season from elsewhere in the stand and the Guy on the other side said the season ticket holder only went to a handful of games last season and it was his son in the seat for the derby. I have no idea why he or other season ticket holders don't go to games but these seats ARE sold and the demand is there for expansion as a previous comment says 'build it and they will come'. The comment by Ian Herbert is just typical lazy journalism which will be lapped up by reds and the myth will continue...20,000 empty seats..are you sure?

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

i dont mind having a stadium with a capacity of 80,000+ but the big worry is whether we will sell out or not, dont want city to end up being like wigan were there are empty seats everywhere. i like the idea though, dont get me wrong.

If there were masses of empty seats in an 80,000 seater they would all be up in the gods anyway because that is where most "General Sale" tickets are, and you hardly see up there on TV.

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

I read a while back that the club could either add a third tier at either end (as they have stated in their survey) to just about get capacity to 60k or they had a nuclear option of taking the roof off all the stadium and geting to 80k. I assume they could do it in stages so 60k as soon as possible makes most sense to me. The only way to increase match day income now is to put up prices but that is short term thinking whereas getting attendances up to a higher maximum fits in with the owners vision IMO.
