So you say that the Etihad will be a 60k venue by 2015?

I await the announcements with interest.

I can vouch for whatever GX says. He isn't just guessing and as far as the stadium and campus go, he knows what's going on.

I dont doubt what GX has seen and what he has said.

I do have doubts that we will be seeing the current stadium remodelled and capable of holding 60,000 in two years time.

I simply suggested that it might be more like 5 years hence before anything substantial has occurred vis a vi capacity.

Make up your mind. You said 10 years earlier and now it's 5?

5 years until something substantial. Perhaps 10 years until 60k.

If you know for sure when the developments are to begin and how long they are planned to last then give me a guesstimate of the completion and I will stop my own guessing ;-)

And give you the opportunity to announce on Twatter 'your' big news? Nah, you're alright. I'll leave it up to Ferran to let everyone know when he is ready.

Etihad Ground Extension?

Telegraph Sport understands scheduling concerns and fears that serious harm would be caused to the pitch look set to scupper the prospect of England 2015 naming the stadium on its final list of venues.

Hosting matches at the 75,000-seat ground was central to organisers’ hopes of selling the 2.9 million tickets required to fulfil the £80 million revenue pledge made to the International Rugby Board.

Discussions have already begun with Manchester City to limit the damage by holding games at the 60,000 capacity Etihad Stadium – talks that are expected to bear fruit – but there is no hiding the loss of a potential 15,000 tickets per match in sales.

Inaccurate reporting, or is the much expected ground ex[ansion due to be in place by 2015?

The survey sent to me (Blue Member with MTP) last month asked me how interested I would be in a season ticket for an expanded 3rd tier, it also asked my opinion on various payment options for 2015/16 season. I assume that means having an extended stadium ready for 2015 is at least a viable option.

Last time I was there I was thinking, when in the stadium you forget all the lower tier is below ground, with only the second level at the ends at ground level.
How difficult would it be to knock out level 2 leaving the roof in place and the lower tier. Then put in a bigger steeper new level 2. There looks to be plenty of room under the roof.
No idea if that's workable, just my thoughts.

I think its more likely we will change the shape of the roof - leave the front edge but extend the roof back at a lower angle - if you did this you could remove the hospitality box and insert a third tier - not quite as high as on the present East and West Stands. I assume the corporate lost here would be replaced elsewhere with level 2 becoming all corporate. BTW this only my take - a calculated guess.

No announcement yet made.

This summer events already in place mean no changes.

That means any start date will be summer 2014 - academy goes live then interestingly - perhaps a further year for planning etc allowing a further summer of concerts etc?

It hints at a start date of 2015 for any substantial changes at the earliest, if there are any to happen.

I hope I'm wrong but I fear I'm not.

I fully appreciate that there won't be a start this summer and that all we can expect in 2013, if anything at all, is a fairly minimal shoe-horning in of a few extra seats in the corners. However, it was the suggestion that there's only an "outside chance" that the stadium "could be a 60k venue in 10 years" that horrified me. In other words, you're suggesting that

We're selling out every league game at present. The requirements of FFP would suggest that we really need to increase the uptake in corporate areas or premium seating. To do so we would probably need - as is being discussed on the latest posts in this thread - to convert areas in level two down the sides of the ground. If we shift the fans currently in those places, there needs to be somewhere for them to go to. In other words, the stadium needs to be expanded.

Moreover, we have a fanbase with a relatively high average age, a function of losing out heavily to United among the generation raised when they swept all before them while we were clueless no-hopers. What better way to attract the new generation than by being able to offer affordable prices to help us fill the extra places?

I appreciate that there can be nothing major until 2014. But if you're right that there's only an outside prospect of us having a 60K stadium as far ahead as season 2022-23, then I'd be very, very disappointed with that. I'd hope for a coherent, phased plan to start the expansion next year, once the training facility is ready, and to finish as swiftly as is viable in the circumstances.
