Wonder what (if anything) they're downgrading/dropping to snip £35 million from the cost...hope the bridge hasn't been lost!?
If that was the cost of the bridge then I hope they are. That's one maga signing in my book.

This cost could well exclude the value of the remediation work, which I expect is quite pricey. Regardless, £65m isn't pocket change in the current climate. £100m less so.

May be a more detailed set of plans has allowed for more accurate cost assessment.

Is the City Council not paying for the remediation works using grants from the EU and elsewhere?

I'm pretty sure the club is paying for the remediation work. There may well be EU grants involved, but, if so, these are most likely being match funded by the club. Happy to be corrected though.

I would be very surprised if City were paying for the remediation. It is normal for such to be the responsibility of the public sector to make the redevelopment of the area likely. Heavily contaminated sites tend not to be developed without public sector cash to remediate the.

I understood that it was New East Manchester and the City Council who were initiating the ground remediation and the capping of mineshafts.

The costs of remediating the area around the stadium (presumably including the collar site as well as the Analine site) was expected to be £19 million.

A grant of £450,000 to cover the initial costs including professional was obtained from the Northwest Regional Development Agency and the Homes and Communities Agency.

The council hoped the total cost would be met by the same agencies plus the European Regional Development Fund. At this stage, £5m of ERDF funding has been secured, which will be matched with a funding package of up to £2.7m from the HCA's existing commitment to the Sportcity area. Talks are under way with the NWDA and HCA about funding the remaining £10m.
