City set for stadium expansion
6th February 2014

COUNCILLORS in Manchester are expected to wave through Manchester City's plans to add another 14,500 seats at the Etihad Stadium when they meet next Thursday.

The club wants to extend the north and south stands by 6,250 seats each and create an extra 2,000 seats around the pitch.

The changes will increase the number of seats at the ground by 30% from 47,670 to 62,170.

The club said the construction work will create 160 temporary jobs and the extended stadium would require an extra 220 match day staff.

Planning officers have recommended the proposal is approved when the city council's planning committee meets on February 13.

A report prepared ahead of the meeting states: "The expansion of the stadium will provide enhanced facilities which will help to create a stadium of national and international profile and improve the visitor experience. The appearance of the south and north stands and create a more prominent landmark feature at the centre of the Etihad Campus and East Manchester."

It added: "Whilst there will be some impact arising from the development it is considered that the aspects of the proposal have been designed to minimise the impact on nearby residential properties, for example, design of the roof to avoid overshadowing, consideration of the lighting to avoid sky glow and glare and management of deliveries and operating hours."

I just drove past the CFA on the Ashton New Road side and was quite easily able to see the supports of the bridge being maneuvered into place.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to take some cheeky photos as I had the dibble in a panda car behind.

It got me thinking, especially with the article above - I wonder if the bridge will be in place, ready for a concrete announcement from the club re the expansion plans?

I drove passed there last night. It's really going to be a mammoth bridge when you consider it's length and the height it has to be so buses can clear it.

Also nice to see the piped cladding going up on the exterior of the stadium as well. I drive passed daily and you notice something has changed each day

I used to go past every day but we changed offices so I now use Oldham Road on the commute.
As I am not seeing the CFA on a daily basis it is massively impressive how much has changed in the time I now go from seeing it.
The exterior cladding looks impressive, but I cannot help but think how much more impressive it would look, if it was "City blue".

Nice pics danebankshiek, the stadium looks brilliant!

And Thursday for the planning application meeting. Does that mean we'll get a definite answer if the plans are accepted by the council next Thursday then?

Just drove past the Campus and the tubular type cladding is going on at the Alan Turing Way/Ashton New Rd site. Looks pretty good too.

Yeah seen it today, could'nt believe it was silver though, silver light gey in east manchester...fuck sake...i've never heard anyone in the history of the velodrome say it looked bonny..thats silver/gey.....you'd have thought with the velodrome earmarked for a make-over and folk not liking the concrete bauhaus stadium aesthetic ....someone may have mentioned it to the architects....'kin silver, looks like the inside of a peugot 205. Grey road, grey sky...silver claddy...looks well shit.

I think it is the fault of the Works Experience Kid in the architects office. He was told to try and sketch out the cladding
and he was enthralled he was on the project so near to the (old) market his mum used to take him to .....................
