(off topic I know but..)
Hi, I am a student doing an extended project on the question ‘Has football lost touch with its roots?’ ‘Roots’ are whatever you want them to be, but I was curious of your thoughts on the following areas:
• Demographics and pricing.
• The foundations and original form of fanship.
• New style of fanship.
• The running of teams as clubs or businesses.
• The effects of broadcasting.
Your thoughts would be much valued as I would like to be able to represent your views in my exploration of the topic. Cheers!

You'd be better off PMing a mod and asking them for permission to post a new thread of your own (normally you have to have a post count of 100 before you can start one but they occasionally make some exceptions).

Try messaging some on this list. Otherwise you may find your comments get lost in the depths of this discussion.

targeting your questioning would also be likely to get your more responses, there's a lot of very general areas you've mentioned that you could write a thesis about in all honesty.

Just noticed this on the MCC website - <a class="postlink" href="http://pa.manchester.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=LLE44PBC6K000" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://pa.manchester.gov.uk/online-appl ... 44PBC6K000</a>

Seems we're adding new doors to the new club shop, or is that new doors to both new ends of the stadium? ;)
this is from 2011 ?

I was playing devils advocate. Sarcasm doesn't travel well via the interwebz, does it? :P

EDIT: It was in the portal with the new/current submissions (like the work behind the SS), so I took it to be a relevant update.
Perhaps they're tweaking the portal all ready for the announcement tomorrow?

They have just posted...
"Manchester City Football Club has today received formal notification of the granting of planning permission to expand the Etihad Stadium.

It is the Club's current intention to first proceed with the development of the South Stand. The opportunity also exists to expand the North Stand and to introduce additional pitch side seating in the future for which planning permission has also been granted.

The works taking place currently are service diversion works with planning consent on a separate application that began on Monday 13th January. These works are likely to take two months to complete."

So it's South Stand first and not even the additional 3 rows at the front. What capacity is that giving us?

Approx.53,200 I would assume.

So basically we are expanding the stadium according to the demand there is right now..but can expand it more if we want.

Sounds sensible to me at least.

I think the waiting list is abt 5000 so as you say seems abt right to just do one end first
Planning permission last for 3 years so if the demand is strong again we can then do the pitch side seats or the other tier.
