Can't understand why they built the stadium so close to the junction!

locals will have some balls (no pun intended)

was thinking the same today when stopped at the lights it looks like there's no room for the bridge ?

is it a road bridge or just a footbridge ?

Foot and Golf Buggies I think

I might be wrong, but I thought the renders of the bridge had it ending somewhere further down Grey Mare Lane (behind the stand) and not directly opposite on the corner of Ashton New Road...?

Yep, goes alongside the new mini stadium down Alan Turing Way (not GML) and drops to ground level at the South end of the mini stadium so it can get up and over the junction to the Etihad

I've been going on for ages about de-curveting the Medlock and they are now doing it.

Funny that, I was trying to read the hordings on the side of a development on Chester Road in Hulme (near to the site of the former Manchester Regiment pub) this morning about an underground river. Presumed it was the Medlock but as we were near to Cornbrook, I thought it might be that. The traffic started moving before I could read it all.

Went to Ashton on the Metro today not seen the site for about 5 months, bloody hell its close to the road whys that?

I assume it's because its the area the public will access and they won't want people walking round all the training pitches to get to it?
Sounds plausible, not that i am complaining about it being near the road, it sort of makes a statement, this is our training ground look at it we are not hiding away, thousands of people will see it everyday, not like Carrington stuck down a country road out of sight

I was reading the Daily Fails report on the expansion ( I know, I know, I shouldn't but wanted to see if their take on it had changed) and the article was reasonably positive. I scolled down to the comments to read the plastic rags comments and they didn't disapoint. The usual council house, empty seats, buying success, no history crap with a few fellow blues and independents fighting the waves of bile !
I was going to leave a comment about the sheik could buy it (they will find out soon enough the enormity of what's comming) but couldn't be arsed.
Made me think though - it's well known that the money would go back down to London and the Governing bodies who actually funded it, in which case does the Council actually own the stadium or just has the right to say what happens to it as it is on their land?

Its a bit like having a mortgage.

You own the house but if you sell it you have to pay back the balance owed.

I love the 'Council House' tag. Used to ask a Rag united fan at work if he'd played the Lottery and when he had, I'd remind him that he'd just helped a little bit more with our new stadium. I've since told him that he's contributing to our wealth every time he fills his car up. Last time I saw him he told me the 'Arabs' would get bored now they've won the league! Yeah, o.k.

Gotcha. I wonder if the council have to repay it sometime in the future rather than only if it's sold ? Don't suppose so.
Thanks FB - keep up the great work on here and SSC - cheers

The Council wanted the Commonwealeth games.
Manchester wanted the Commonwealeth games.
England wanted the Commonwealeth games.

How many arenas and stadia for Commonwealeth games and Olympic Stadiums fall into disrepair or have no proper legacy plan?

Manchester City needed a new ground.

Manchester Council and Manchester City had a mutual interest.
An agreement panned out for a club with very little in the bank, and a council looking for a legacy.

Socially, in football, regionally, nationally and beyond - we're bloody good tenants. Long may Manchester Council link it with its own club, Manchester City.

Great post!

The council will never alienate either club. Both are cash cows for Manchester and part of the reason we are now truly recognised as the 2nd City.
