The plan was not to deal with wops...turns out all these dagos are as bad as each other.

What a Grade A Cock ! I wish we could transfer fans !
It's no more insulting than "Yank"...especially the way the usual suspects in off-topic spit it out. I think they say it because they think they're hard, and to show they're part of the travellers group.

I disagree,

The term Yankee, sometimes abbreviated to Yank, has a few related meanings, often referring to someone of Northern U.S. origin or heritage. Within the United States its meaning has varied over time. Originally the term referred to residents of New England as used by Mark Twain in A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. During and after the American Civil War its meaning expanded to include any Northerner or resident of the states formerly on the Union side of the war, and included anyone from the Northeast (New England, Mid-Atlantic, and upper Great Lakes states). After the Civil War the term gradually reverted to its earlier meaning of New Englander,[1] although Southerners often continue to use the extended meaning.

Find me the reasoning behind Wop or Dago ! they have real vitriolic racist edges to those terms. While I apologise if it is a term you find offensive, it is not a term that is used specifically with a tone of hatred, Its up there with Poms and Limeys, You even have a sports team that use the term in there own name !

Indeed - try calling an "Atlantan" a Yank or Yankee and see what abuse you get!!

Well fuck me pink and call me porky.

I go out for lunch for a couple of hours and come back and the world has ended.

You are all getting worked up over a report on SSN saying it is unlikely to happen, is this the same SSN that said he was in Manchester this morning? All part of his agent's game.

Relax.

hope your right porky ;]

On this forum it is used almost exclusively derogatorily as a synonym for stupid-violent-evil. You know it, I know it, everyone knows it. There isn't a hint of good-natured ribbing about it! It's one thing for a bunch of black guys over here to call each other ni**er, it's quite another if I did it: it's the intent, the contempt...the word as used is meant to objectify, degrade, hurt.

I would guess less than if I were to refer to a Latino Atlantan as a Wop or a Dago !

Look I had an opinion and thats that he's on the Foe list now anyway so its not my problem (not that it ever was) If you 2 are happy with that sort of thing then thats your choice its a free world (generally) and for my part I will bear it in mind to not refer to either of you as Yanks. Happy now ? You may have felt differently if you had Spanish family or maybe the terms do not carry the same weight or conatations in the States, either way lets get back to argueing about ITK's and WUM's Ive said my piece and my opinion aint changed.

Nixon - I'm a Limey ;-).

Anyway, in the midst of the madness, I'd just like to say, you're a good bloke. Now where's that troll McNab?
