I spoke to a pal in the media (press) who said that City had no new signing announcements planned at present.

i thought he meant eto'os agents conference. or is that tuesday?

Ok, someone explain this to me.

Why is Eto'o's (Jesus, too many apostrophes) agent calling this conference for tomorrow?Why not now?If he has earth shattering news would he not just give a press conference now, I mean how long does it take to ge a few journos in a room in a hotel?

Could it be that it is his way of giving an ultiumatum to Barca?Sort it now or I will call a press conference tomorrow to say teh deal is off.

My view is that this is all part of the game to get as much loot as possible for his client, a game of bluff and counter bluff.

Never mind what BAllague is saying, he is just rehashing what Sport.es and mundo deportivo are saying.

A good interpretation of things.

It's an undisguised threat to Barca to get busy - but there are a couple of people at City who think they could even be orchestrating this together.
'Oh City have the cash, they are now in the full glare and can pay it' etc.

Worst case scenario for Barca is they get to keep a world-class striker, we just left with egg on face.

That's a rather simplistic view tolmie. They will lose him in twelve months for nothing. Barca will want this deal to go through now no doubt. I wouldn't have thought Laporta would have said anything yesterday if they didn't want shut.

Maybe, but Barca did a similar thing when we came in for Ronaldinho, they went public and kissed goodbye to extra £10m from us because the player had other ideas...

Maybe they have learnt from their mistakes.

No I meant the City conference reference was made to the Shirt launch and a press conference on Wednesday I was keen to know if it was Deffo!

I don't know why the club would look stupid if this doesn't come off when they haven't said a thing about it. The only people who would look foolish would be the people who have been telling everyone how we're going to sign Eto'o...and then it'd be their own fault.

Frankly if Eto'o would rather stay at Barca so be it.

As people have said Guardiola will not be happy and neither I guess will La Porta.

Can they afford Villa if they don't sell Eto'o? And even if they can is there room for both strikers and Messi and Henry and Bojan etc in their customary front 3. Plus the Brazilian they have just bought.

The problem could be that Villa is still holding out for Madrid and therefore Barca are not sure what to do.

Maybe we have a bid in for Villa too and Valencia know it is more than Madrid offered.

So many variables involved here and no-one wants to lose out. Neither the players with big egos nor clubs as grandiose as Madrid and Barca.

The bottom line is that even if we miss out on Eto'o there are others we could approach who are maybe younger and hungrier. Let's see how it unfolds.

Not really. It's just one opinion and if true, I doubt we'll have any announcements today.

Signing a player and holding a press conference are two entirely different things and things that people need to separate in their minds.

Just because City haven't called a press conference doesn't mean there won't be an announcement in the next 5 minutes saying we've signed someone. It's only AFTER a signing is made that arrangements are put in place for press conferences. (Not aimed at you URG!)

So let me get this right, if Barca pay 13Mil to Eto'o he will stay? So instead of making the 25Mil to fund Villa they are going to splash 13Mil of their tight xfer budget. Doesnt add up to me.
