Markus Kerber is considered Germany’s most influential business lobbyist. As Director General of the Federation of German Industries (BDI), he represents more than 100,000 manufacturing companies in Germany.

"A German industry boss has said it would be "very, very foolish" if the EU imposes trade barriers on the UK in the event it votes to leave the EU.

Markus Kerber, the head of the influential BDI which represents German industry, said his organisation would make the case against such measures.

He said any introduction of tariffs would be "regression to times we thought we'd left behind in the 1970s".

The UK's referendum on whether to leave the EU will be held on Thursday.

"Imposing trade barriers, imposing protectionist measures between our two countries - or between the two political centres, the European Union on the one hand and the UK on the other - would be a very, very foolish thing in the 21st Century," Mr Kerber told the BBC's World Service.

"The BDI would urge politicians on both sides to come up with a trade regime that enables us to uphold and maintain the levels of trade we have, although it will become more difficult."

Mr Kerber added that any introduction of tariffs would lead to job losses in Germany and the UK."

I was going to post that but then realized it would lead to frantic searches on google by all to decredit Mr Kerber as a crackpot as this naturally flies in the face of what a lot of people have been arguing about in terms of future trade agreements and that won't do at all.

they can't afford to let us leave, but can they afford to make us a better offer? We leave they have as many problems as we will have, though I am remain I am pretty surprised they didn't give Cameron more earlier this year
Complacency because they thought there wouldn't be enough Little Englanders to carry the day. Maybe they're right, we'll just have to see. But nobody should be kidding themselves if they think the rest of Europe can't afford to let us leave because they can and they will.

Or they were banking on there being sufficient gutless sheep who could be conned into staying in an organisation they don't even like because they've been told that Armageddon will follow a Leave vote.

Some people are looking to discredit David Cameron. I could not possibly comment.

There are a couple of posters on this thread that have probably convinced more people to vote the other way than they could ever imagine. Bigoted nasty comments made by them, which just make them look completely childish, it's turned into a personal 'victory' for some if they get what they want which quite frankly is fucking pathetic.

Comparing people that believe vote leave makes them "Little Englanders' and fucking "Nazis" get a grip, you petulant idiots. It's people like you that have turned people I work with and you will only have yourselves to blame if vote out 'wins'. Idiots.

I'm a remainer btw, just.
Agreed.100%. (I suspect one of them may be Russell Brand)

You missed out your usual targets, so I've helped you along a bit ;-)

They fucking are little Englanders and they are obsessed with immigration. You were clearly always going to vote leave but if you do it on the strength of what people in here are saying ... sigh, basically. You are fooling no one if you're trying to say the Remainers are angrier than the embittered little flag waving Brexits who prefer to threaten this country's future prosperity because they think Polish people are taking their jobs and Turkey are going to invade us by the millions. I am pretty angry, I admit, but only because white van drivers don't like Johnny Foreigner and think they can drag us all back to some mythical past (that never existed in the first place) . I'm a leaver by the way.

No idea what that means, I disagree though. I think people like you would argue with yourself to prove a point to nobody but it would make you feel great so you're a winner. Well done you. You are a bigot btw.

I'm voting remain. I have an open mind though unlike yourself. You are just as bad as some of the right wing nutjobs you hate so much though!

Bigot - a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance.

You've edited now so I will justvadd another point. I work with foreign people, I don't and MOST other normal people don't see them as being any different to myself. Suprisingly quiteba few of then are out voters, some aren't. Immigration is low on the list of reasons that have been mentioned in my workplace though (of over 5k) people in the UK, bearing in mind I only see a small percenrage of them.

I think what he's trying to say is that smearing at people and accusing them of being Little Englanders and idiots because they see things differently to you will actively discourage people from seeing your point of view.......

That's one bright side I suppose if Brexit wins , my next holiday back home will become much cheaper .
I know people exchanging for both Dollars and Euros. I definitely wouldn't go with Euros as I predict the Euro would also plummet. If i'm going to do a bulk of exchange then the Dollar is what I will go with.

No. We don't know what will happen if we leave. So why are we taking the risk?
