Europa League Final. Arsenal vs. Chelsea. 29/5/19.

UEFA dont give a fuck.

They've got a final stadium where part of the deal is paying no local taxes to host it. Next seasons final is at The Gazprom stadium Gdansk. Remind me who's one if their biggest sponsors?
Corrupt as.

It's outrageous really that Mkhitaryan has to miss the final simply by virtue of where he was born. Disgraceful in fact.

Inaccurate. Important to get the facts right here, too easy to jump the gun.

Was Mkhi denied a visa? No. Was he encouraged not to participate? No. Was he assured that UEFA & Foreign ministry would do everything possible to ensure his safety? Yes.

Did Mkhi himself (Along with his family) decide not to attend? Yes. This is on the player, not Baku. Moreover, you cannot ignore the fact that there are incredible tensions between the two countries - feels a lot more like a political stance by the player but understandable as well since many Armenian terrorist acts have been carried out on Azeri soil

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry indicated Friday that Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan can play in the Europa League final in Baku despite tension between Azerbaijan and his native Armenia.

Asked about Mkhitaryan, ministry spokeswoman Leyla Abdullayeva told The Associated Press that “many major sports events have been hosted in Azerbaijan, and Armenian athletes have taken part in them. Sports and politics are separate.”

UEFA said Friday that it had received assurances from Azerbaijan’s soccer governing body, but didn’t mention a government commitment.

“Assurances were sought on this matter by UEFA and Arsenal FC, with the Azerbaijan Football Association confirming that there would be no problem for the player in question to enter and stay in Azerbaijan and that all necessary security measures would be in place,” UEFA said in emailed comments.′

That's all very well, but there is a responsibility within UEFA to select venues where this isn't a problem, or to change them if it is. Do everything possible to ensure his safety isn't sufficient when there's a risk of something happening beyond the normal risk inherent.

FIFA wouldn't schedule an Israel match in Jeddah and say "get on with it lads" it's taken into account.

I'd love that to be the case but where are neutral venues anymore anyway? Only in western Europe? Eurovision in Israel? Copa Del Rey Final in Saudi Arabia? Money talks and they're certainly not going to consider a venue change for one player they cannot plan ahead for

And Israel is a hotspot irrespective of your nationality. Azerbaijan is only an issue for Armenians

And as there were Armenian teams participating in the competition, Baku should never have been given the hosting rights.

Feel so sorry for Mkhitaryan.

I know UEFA have done a lot of shit things, I actually think this is up there with the worst.

Arsenal's 3rd top goalscorer, who scored the winner in a Europa League final 3 years ago, can't play one of European football's showpiece events because there's a chance he might be assassinated.

Arsenal have employed security experts who say his life is at risk if he goes to Baku.

Who gives a fuck what Azerbaijan's government say? They aren't likely to be that honest are they, given the vested interest.

Who gives a fuck what an English 'security expert' says about a country in the Caucuses. I guess Armenian athletes who have competed there previously simply lucked out

Corrected for you in the interests of sticking to the facts
