European away games ticketing policy

So having missed one game in 8 years and max 10 in 10 years, I now am expected to take my chances in a ballot?

Doesn't matter what you are buying. It's wrong.

Of course it is, but people are being selective on what they are outraged about when they are guilty of 'buying' a lift up the loyalty ladder. Arguably a Corporate fan could claim he is doing the same, just to a greater degree.

I dont blame anyone for doing it. It was a situation forced on people by the club. However I just had a look at my loyalty points and points were getting chucked around like confetti by the club a few years ago with a 100 loyalty points being offered for single home matches for the likes of Kiev, Reading in the cup etc. Its pretty unfair now, for the next generation To have a chance of catching up.

The most loyal fans still deserve to go, I am not in that bracket and so feel no ill-feeling when I miss out. I do think for yhe young generation its a real shame trying to catch up to people who earned there points years ago.

Weighted loyalty points to recent attendance and a small ballot of tickets, to keep a larger number of fans engaged in watching City away, would in my opinion be the best option.

I feel the same. having traipsed all over Europe and the uk spending an awful lot of money and putting in so much time and effort I don't think a jcl should come along and take my seat.

be careful city because us high pointers will find a new hobby if we are made to watch from afar. you will then be left with people who by the nature of their point tally aren't that arsed about following city. they WILL sell on their successful ballot successes. the plastics will have rich pickings and will be attending in their droves. then the ipads will come out as the atmospheres drop like a stone.

careful what you wish for.

Of course mate.
It's only fair that those who pick and choose games should be given the same chance as you to go.

Forget that something like 23 games last year went below 10,000 points' the middle pointers have spoken.

Told you before, this season and two more and then that's it.

A ballot does not have to work like that or be the sole method of allocating tickets.

Weighted loyalty points and a small ballot for achieving a certain points criteria could be an example.

Im sure, taking your situation out of the equation, you can see the benefits to City and the Club of engaging a larger number of fans in attending away games.

Quite rightly you will point out tickets do go on sale for the less desirable matches but attendance to those games alone is unlikely to help a young fan gain a Derby ticket in the forseeeable future. That only discourages attendance at away games, by those fans, if they do not see any chance of viewing the best games.

I do see your point of view though Bill although your terminology of plastics, Jcls I do not think is fair.

whoever they are they are not dyed in the wool blues. a guy walked to the front at spurs ipad at the ready. stands right in front us of taking pics and selfies. zero interest in the game itself or the blocking of our view. ****.

But I doubt he is a kid with 10,11,12k loyalty points either but still chasing the pack due to his age.

Thats another question how people like him get tickets. Personally I think City will never revert to a ballot where it is a free for all. Those who do go everywhere, I doth my cap to you, will always have first dibs on ticket, and rightly so, but It should be a bit more relevant to recent attendance than years ago which discriminates against younger fans coming through.

Well said KBB and Bill - I would be very pissed off if I ended up in a shity ballot when we have earned our points the hard way by going to all the games

the younger fans will get their turn just as we did. i'll be dead or at best infirm one day, as will others. until then they need to get to as many games as poss, all the games that tickets are there to be had. that way they will be primed to kick on and overtake me as the games I attend diminish.

So am I not a dyed-in-the-wool blue then? Because unlike you, Keith or Steve, I can't take time off when I feel like it. Quite often I've had to travel on a Sunday afternoon or evening to make sure I'm on a client site on Monday morning. And when I've been away all week, the last thing I want to do is spend another day travelling to Norwich. But I've done it when I can, as you know.

well no. think about what you have just said "the last thing I want to do is travel to Norwich" well we do, every time. there was a game, I can't remember which, recently ,that I didn't qualify on the first day of sale, that's because in the past i'd skipped a game or two, the people who did qualify didn't, whatever they had on they changed in order to attend. I didn't moan, its only fair they get first dibs. if any of those were to lose out to me, or you, in a ballot in would be totally wrong.

That would totally wrong mate, no way should you or anyone else one high points miss out, personally I don't think there is anything wrong with the points system, it's the people who abuse it thats the problem, only my opinion mind

I don't think anybody believes that somebody with high points doesn't deserve to get a ticket for a match. But they don't deserve to buy a ticket and then sell it on. (To maintain there position at the front of the queue).
If the tickets were used by the people buying them and none were sold on then nobody could complain. The issue is that this isn't the case and we all see tourists at the games.

As has been suggested many times before the club needs to come up with a way to monitor that people go themselves and don't sell tickets on and punish those that do.
(Loss of points, temporary bans etc.)

I think the real point of this thread got lost a long time ago.

Here's my conspiracy theory ...... City want greater transparency over who is using (rather than buying) away tickets. Introduce a restrictive (in that it removes an hour of drinking time) ticket collection policy and watch all and sundry kick off. Piss yourselves laughing and promise a review .... come back and say sorry we tried but as we couldn't make it work we'll just have to impose something more restrictive (ballots) and tell all that complained that you listened to them and were left with no other option!!!

You know it'll happen hence the 57 pages of outcry.

FWIW I am firmly in the camp of those that have the points should have 1st priority on tickets. I myself am from the much maligned 13k point group. Do I want a ticket above an 18k person? Do I fuck. Do I want a ticket above anything less than 13k ..... you fucking bet I do. Sadly that point has been lost on some. We don't want your tickets if you intend to use them. We want the tickets you sell on and to which we are as much entitled as you are to the tickets ahead of us.

PSG and Madrid proved that people were buying and pasing on tickets in great numbers. Ticket collection stopped that.

I'll be in Barca and at BMG ..... chances are I'll be watching in a bar in Germany as the relaxation of the collection policy will render my points worthless.

Strangely the ballot system, the same one I and many think will be introduced, may well render your points useless for some games in the future.

Do I tink that's right? Not at all. What I do think is that you sometimes have to be careful what you wish for ....... perhaps an hour or two of your time was better than sacrificing your right (and it is your right) to a big game ticket?

City would never do that? You know they will.

Just a little reminder ..... your 18 - 20k points has certainly earned you the right to tickets ahead of me. My 13k should have earned me the right to tickets ahead of anyone with fewer points than that. It wont be the case at BMG.

It's not envy at your right to tickets ..... its more a bitterness that (in many cases) that right is sold on.

Excellent post. IMHO the cat is already out of the bag. Some posters always seem to be in the queues for ticket collections with blind, disabled, 100 year olds who've queued in a Glasgow monsoon for a week.

Yes the ticket collection in Glasgow was badly organised. The size off the venue would have allowed Blues to queue inside (airport style) as Bill has said and there could have been twice as many staff to halve the queues.

Tickets (bought and used by the buyer) should be the main factor (with maybe more opportunities for younger fans) but as a fan base we have opened the door to the dreaded ballots.
