European Super League | ECJ rule that UEFA and FIFA acted unlawfully in blocking Super League (p 29)

Hopefully the clubs have learned their lesson from the disastrous first launch of this. Qualification needs to be via sporting performance/merit. There needs to be a promotion/relegation dynamic. There needs to be the ability for clubs in the domestic pyramid to gain entry. Providing these points are addressed I'd be in favour. Too much negativity regarding the potential of this idea if correctly implemented imo.

Maybe this ruling will encourage a governing body to cooperate, if not, the clubs may have to initially form a league via a breakaway. Sometimes the status quo has to be broken completely to implement change and I wouldn't blame the clubs for that, worked out well for the premier league.

There’s not going to be a super league.

The court case is irrelevant, the German clubs are out, PSG are out, and the English clubs are out because they (a) have no incentive to join a league whose entire raison d’etre is to earn enough money to compete with the PL and (b) the gov has already said it will legislatively block clubs from competing, and (c) all the PL clubs signed up to 30 point deductions if they joined - a rule they’d not pass if they thought they would be breaking it any time soon.

Unless your idea of a super league is watching Real vs Inter then you’re going to be disappointed.

The super league won't get off the ground, it was meant as a replacement of the UEFA competitions not PL. UK Gov will just ban clubs from football operations in the UK if they tried quitting the PL for ESL.

If they are potentially trying to push City and Chelsea out of the Premier League, they are suddenly outside of their legal remit. The Premier League will have to tread very carefully as their golden goose could get killed very easily.

Financial Fair Play, 115 charges, The Super League, all feed into one another with the history clubs wanting City off the playing board. Be careful what you wish for.

Interesting, does FFP not restrict European competion laws?
Absolutely it does. FIFA have lost twice in a week now for breaking the law. Agents pay and now this. If UEFA can’t prove that Investment is a bad thing in football then FFP goes the same way.

Nobody challenges it because they have too much to lose in the short term and it’s an expensive process.

I know a club that, in certain circumstance, might see both those hurdles as no object.

The match going fan doesn’t want silly kick off times.
The match going fan doesn’t want sky high ticket pricing.
The match going fan doesn’t want VAR.
But the fact is nobody gives a flying fuck about the match going fan. So they will get what they are given. Take it or leave it. They know the majority will take whatever is dished up to them regardless of what they say or do beforehand.
Correct and there are more not match going fans The potential income for the clubs from worldwide tv income is massive

The ESL had a FFP regime

The Telegraph reporting government sources saying that the proposed new bill will mean that clubs would be expelled from all English football if they joined any new form of ESL.

Further analysis of the judgement shows that it isn't a slam dunk win for the ESL side either. Currently only RM & Barcelona are nominally part of it so El Classicos on loop isn't going to cut it.

I'm not convinced PL clubs will join it so readily. The fan backlash the last time was huge.

Personally, I'd probably knock football on the head and become a casual armchair fan if it happens. It would be too manufactured to be exciting.
you think the premier league isnt manufactured, the ceo of the premier league stated they work to put a new name on the trophy every 5 years, everything about the pl is manufactured and bent its quite amazing we've done what we have in the face of it.

I'd suggest it's a bit naive to believe that the clubs aren't still in dialogue behind the scenes. The potential for this is immense, a license to print money for all founder clubs.
