European super league

If the European Super League:

-didn’t affect domestic leagues
-was still midweek (to allow domestic leagues to still be on weekends)
-was just a replacement for the new silly CL
-didn’t saturate every free slot of the calendar and allowed teams to have weeks where there was no game
-managed to stop or decrease the ever increasing international football schedule
-was fair to all clubs entering (not just really there to serve the few clubs who we all know would want it to)
-wasn’t aimed at tourists coming and taking our place in the stadiums
-was affordable (I’m talking £30 a ticket, football is simply too expensive now); maybe was tied in with your season ticket so you can just pay each month like you already do for the season ticket for the PL

I’d be all for it.

I just can’t help but feel that these shysters who have been against us for years because they’re scared to death of us overtaking them, would suddenly want to include us with open arms into something like this.

I reckon we’d be banned for some shite they’ve planned within the first few years. I don’t trust the likes of Madrid, Barça, United, Liverpool or Arsenal one bit.

It feels like a set up to get rid of us.

This is so obvious, I'd expect our owners to have a contingency plan. I'm fully expecting a golf-style split in football.

Under no circumstances would I accept us jumping in bed with the clubs that have spent years trying to destroy us. If we joined a Super League with the rags, Liverpool, arsenal, bayern, barca etc I'm done with City forever. Its my red line. For me Soriano should have walked for posting that Glazer written shite on our website and too many of you were too quick to forgive it

I've said a few times that I would accept an ESL provided initial entry was based on recent European form (say five years) not history. There must also be promotion and relegation, not just between the ESL divisions but also from the bottom ESL division to the individual national leagues.
One of the main problems will be limiting the clubs from the stronger nations and denying representation to weaker nations; the equivalent to London having loads of teams in the CL and EFL, but Cornwall having none. In UEFA's case the countries with no teams would still have a vote and could make it uncomfortable for the UEFA exec. Having said that they could probably be bought off. As if UEFA would consider that!!
The Premier League have shown they are controlled by certain clubs and are probably more corrupt (and certainly more spineless) than UEFA.
If the number of clubs involved is less than the number in the three current UEFA club tournaments then there is no issue about increasing the carbon footprint.

I never even read it I don't go on city's website it's a mess

It will not be that simple. There will have to be governance and safeguards otherwise everyone loses out. The current structure would not survive any legal challenge. The clubs own the content just like any other entertainment business. I am not saying there are no risks but I don't believe anyone can stop this happening. It is a globalised world whether we like it or not. The Digital Revolution has changed everything. City need to be involved in this so we can shape what happens. If it ends up being run by a cartel (like is now) it will certainly fail.

It will certainly fail then.

It may well fail but it doesn't mean the CL/UEFA can continue to exist in its current form. I think that eventually some sort of alternative to the CL will emerge. At present football (PL and CL) is regulated by organisations which have corrupted structures. And those same organisations compete commercially with the clubs for revenues at the same time as they inflict damage on some of the clubs with (illegal) financial controls. Fans are increasingy ripped off by EUFA/FIFA, the broadcasters, and the clubs themselves. The only solution must involve some sort of strong independent regulator and, of course, there is no guarantee that will succeed.

My biggest issue with the previous proposal was the lack of relegation and promotion.
If spurs finish bottom of the European super league and Bournemouth happen to have a big upturn in ability, Bournemouth should be replacing them in the super league even if they are a less fashionable club.

Corrupted how? I am trying to understand your points.

My opinion now is the exact same as my opinion when this was first proposed, and dare I say it's probably the opinion shared by the club. We're alright and don't want to push for any changes to the existing format but IF it were to happen then it would be incredible act of incompetence by the board to not join it.

Pep Guardiola and Erling Haaland do not win football matches in the high level view. Revenue wins football matches. The higher the revenue, the more likely you are to win. If this increases revenue significantly and our rivals are in it, then we must also be in it.
