This time it has potential to take over. The key this time is it's a meritocracy, based on domestic performance in the previous season. That removes a huge sticking point for lots of fans. Secondly, it is free-to-air. Absolutely nobody can oppose that. Thirdly, I believe tickets for games will be capped at £20/€25. Again, who can argue with that? Personally, I'm not against the idea. The old stumbling blocks have been removed. Why should we defend UEFA's hegemony of rip-off ticket prices and tv packages? The only reservations I have are around what the future holds - will all of the above eventually be scrapped? Will it become a closed shop with rip-off tickets and pay-per-view streaming? If there can be some sort of legal guarantee that this doesn't happen then I'm open to the idea.
