Ever been ripped off?

Yes by a fake roofer
I only entertained him cos I had seen him working on a neighbours roof, and had a leaky roof and didn't want to call the landlord round to see the general state of the place

He actually did a small amount of work that fixed a lot of the problem but nowhere near as much as promised and took £240 off me for half an hours work in a threatening manner despite the fact I told him I'd just been on a psychiatric ward (which was true)

I recognised the accent as Middlesbrough area

Sadly they didn’t. It took fifteen minutes inside before I knew I’d been set up. The lads were really friendly and they’d built up my trust first.

I’m 40 and it’s the first time its ever happened to me. When I excused myself to use the toilet, I hid anything valuable as I suspected they might try and escort me to a cash point machine. The idiots didn’t think I had put it all in my shoe.

I fooled the people who tried to fool me. I take some pleasure from that and laughed as my flight left Istanbul for Baku.
Well done. Imagine I'd have done the same once I'd realised it was going downhill.

Yeah by Bob Dylan.
Bought 2 tickets, looked forward to seeing him, for 90 minutes the little **** never spoke a word... and he changed the melody of every song, so you only recognised the song by the words. Miserable awkward little bastard.
Still waiting for a refund hahaha

The GC is a fucking tourist trap too. I paid £14 for a Fenerbahce scarf that was less than half that from their club shop. They’re absolute gold as salesmen. If you can haggle with them then you’re a winner.

It’s disappointing as I genuinely liked Istanbul otherwise. The waiters and bar touts were on me immediately and the food was excellent. It was good natured. One was able to speak to me in Welsh (I have a little understanding of it) which was hilarious at the time. Like Guinness in Ireland, Efes doesn’t travel over here but I’d drink it there.

I’d still go back but would be far more prepared. I had a taxi scam in Georgia (I cried for help and he came down in price) and also attempted pick pocketing in Paris. I’m usually in Wales colours when I go to football so I stand out against those in casual clothing.

As I said, it happens in London too. Tourists get conned everywhere. Just take precautions.
A fool and his money...

Mercedes next to Etihad.
Sold us a right dud.
Straight away no power, took it back in, courtesy car for 6 (SIX) months? Eventually
Picked it up, still the same, left it back in there (No courtesy car this time!) contacted solicitor who advised us to buy a runabout as he knew they would drag it out.
All there paperwork was all over the place with conflicting mileage etc.
They basically parked it up for 12 months.
In the end we got that fed up with the whole carry on we decided to go and retrieve it, the pile of shite it is!
It’s the 2nd vehicle we’ve had off them also, they’re only a shitty unprofessional franchise.

Just remembered a time we went to Golden Beach in Bulgaria. Everywhere you go, locals are asking for pounds to exchange. We got talking to a huge bloke from Birmingham who said he fancied a go to make a bit of money. He was approached by a local and taken down a side street to do the deal, bear in mind he was a big bloke who obviously would have been able to look after himself. The local took him down the street and took his money and started to count out the local curency. When he gets halfway through, another local shouts over that another customer wants to do a deal. The first local turns around and shouts 'yeah, ok I'm just paying this bloke'. In the second that he turned his back, the local had switched the genuine notes into plain paper.

The Brummie said he had watched the entire thing like a hawk, suspecting that there was a real chance that he would be ripped off, but never saw a thing.

As he walked away with what he thought was a load of money, he found out that he had two tenths of fuck all.

Being a big bloke he decided to go back and give somebody a hiding, but halfway there thought the better of it. He knew there were at least two people in on the scam and probably a few more that he hadnt seen, so accepted the loss.

It's nice, now and again, to see just how idiotic some people are.

Was that really necessary? My Malaga scarf was €12 and my Union Berlin about the same price. Whilst I overpaid for the Fenerbahce one, it’s Turkish Lira I had budgeted to spend regardless.

Their whole market culture is haggle, haggle and haggle. I’m a big merch collector so it was nice to have. As I said, it’s not put me off visiting such a vast and complex city. I had a laugh with legitimate door touts. I’ll just be better prepared next time.
