Ever seen a City non-derby game played at Old Trafford?

Went all 3 walsall , Luton & bury
In the Walsall game Francis's lee scored and later that season scored an hat trick in the derby , and for a time was top goalscorer at old Trafford

Has anyone out there seen City play someone who isn't United at Old Trafford?

I know it has happened quite a few times but I only remember one: we drew Bury away in one of the very early rounds of the League/CArling/Rumbelows/whatever it was at the time cup. Bury couldn't cope with the invasion so the game was played at Old Trafford. I don't remember much apart from that we won (1-0?) and I seem to remember the crowd being around 11,000. That was of course a typical crowd for that stage of the cup. At a guess I'd say this was about 1986.

Was anyone there? Did they open all the stands or just some? And can anyone remember any other games where Old Trafford was used?

Yep I was there in the scoreboard

Bury expected a large gate but at the time Gigg Lane held at least 12000. The match was moved to OT but then some City fans refused to go because it was at OT and the attendance was 11,377. Gigg lane would have held that.

Incidentally the return leg at Maine Rd only had 9,799.

Both games ended 2-1

That season I went to watch City in 3 competitive games at OT as we also played FA Youth Cup final 1st leg there.

I was sat in the scoreboard seats above the paddock
Quite a surreal experience to be honest

didn't we play Luton in one of the many cup replays there ?

I went to that game Paul & Ron Futcher were playing for Luton and we later bought both, I said that day I would never give them (the scum) any more of my money and have never been there since

I remember the Luton game at Maine road well, I was dying with a toothe ache and in the last minute of normal time Ron Futcher missed a sitter for Luton and I went ballistic at him as I wanted to go home not watch extra time!!!!

On a neutral ground theme we played Gornik in Copenhagen in 1971 after a 2-2 aggregate which we won 3-1.

After neutral venues I went to Millwall on a Tuesday in FA Cup replay, i think 1990.
We drew 1v1 and they tossed whilst we were still locked in.
Went back there 6 days later at Old Den, Monday night, lost 3v1.
Didnt see any trouble . Maybe cause there were loads of police with dogs on the away car park and an escort toElephant and Castle.

Think Sheringham did for us in that tie.

If I'm not mistaken that 2nd replay was notable for the first time a substitute got substituted himself in English football. ( Ashley Ward )

I went there in the mid/late seventies to see us play Luton in a 2nd replay in the League Cup. Seem to remember their keeper, Milija Aleksic (later played for Spurs), had a blinder. Can't recall the score, but pretty sure we won. The crowd was small, with a lot of the ground closed. I stood in the Stetford End.

I don't remember this at all. Anyone remember why it was at Old Trafford? Was it seen as a neutral ground or something?
it was a second replay, hence neutral ground we won 3 2 on the way to the league cup final of 76

The only time I've been to the swamp without watching city was when I watched England v South Africa in a friendly years ago.

Me too, Ian Wright handball winner if I remember correctly and a few good Mexican waves to boot.
