Everton (A) | Game Postponed

If Everton think there’s something underhanded in all this, I reckon they’re badly mistaken. If anything, I’d say it’s in Everton’s best interests that the match is off. It’s shit for both teams and both sets of fans of course and we both had a great chance to close the gap at the top but for all we know City could’ve sent a team over with one or more asymptomatic carriers who have yet to test positive and that in turn could’ve infected many in the Everton squad. Then you’re staring down the barrel of having more than just this one game being called off.

I think the possible issue is the Premier League just informing the club of a decision, possibly contravening previously agreed protocols, without providing all of the information.

I've got no issue with the match being postponed but there has to be transparency around the decision making.

well i would guess there has been an out break of covid19 in the City camp and City and the premier league want to be sure its under control and that City wont endanger other teams etc or themselves. What else do Everton need to know ?

From what I can gather our side, the issue seems to be that we were not involved in the discussion but just told of the outcome.

Thats not to say we wouldnt have agreed etc as its the correct call but if we were still planning for a game, with fans, security, staff, stewards and catering etc all preparung for matchday, totally unaware that you had reported the new cases to the PL and were discussing or requesting postponing the game then you can understand why we dont appear to be happy.

Everton haven't stated that.

They're said public safety is uppermost and there should be full disclosure of the information - which is a legitimate request considering we were 4 hours away from a Premier League match with fans in attendance.

There isn't an issue with Man City here. The issue is with the Premier League.

Everton statement:

Everton Football Club regret the postponement of tonight’s match against Manchester City - not only for the 2,000 fans who would have been attending, but for supporters on Merseyside and across the world.

Our players were prepared for the game, as were both the team staff and everyone at Goodison. Matchday is the most important date in our calendar. And this was a big one.

Whilst Everton will always have public safety uppermost, we will be requesting full disclosure of all the information that Manchester City provided to the Premier League so the Club can be clear on why this decision was taken.
As if they haven’t been consulted.

if they wanted more information they could have asked in the appropriate channels.

the public statement is a declaration that they disagree with the decision

Corona which is on offer a lot these days.
Sounded like you were referring to the virus
Yeah, I should have put 'Corona Extra' to be clear it wasn't a pun. I was being lazy, I guess. If I'd have said "no pun" though, it would have probably have had the opposite effect.

It sounds like we were not consulted or involved in the discussions regarding the postponement, we were just informed when the decision was made which isnt great tbf. The conclusion of those discussions was the correct decision but the match involved 2 teams so both should have been part of the discussion.
I get what you're saying, but at the end of the day what would/could you have been consulted about? If the decision has to be made by the PL based on info supplied by City, then you have no input. It is however, poor by PL if they've not given details why.

Which there wont be to anybody's satisfaction 4 hrs before the event. When all info can be provided it will be good and proper and a sensible decision. A spreading virus and daily tests will result in late calls and news. Nobody wants to have it do they.

so its the premier league that kept you in the dark about the match might not go ahead ok i understand your point

And that would be reasonable.

However, Everton should know exactly who has Covid, when were the Prem informed, under what basis has the decision been made, has the protocol been broken and why etc.

Basically, Everton should know everything there is to know and shouldn't have to request it. I can't see why this is an issue with anyone?

Then the protocol needs to be clarified for the benefit of everyone.
