Everton (A) | Game Postponed

It's probably a bit poorly worded, the Everton statement, but they are well within their rights for full disclosure. Any club would if a game was cancelled at such short notice.
The statement was absolutely callous and insensitive.

Our statement when Arsenal match was postponed in March on the day of the game due to Arsenal staff coming into contact with Olympiacos owner Marinakis. Don't remember us demanding and causing an unnecessary outcry.Screenshot_2020-12-29-05-17-41-161_com.android.chrome~2.jpg

Stupid match timings and gaps between games aren’t helping matters. Throw in idiotic international breaks on top and you can see those in charge of football have just assumed the virus would vanish into thin air.

The only people getting any benefit from the continuation of the League and Cup competitions are the Media and the hoards of ex-players who pontificate on the game.

At the end of the day football is not going ahead for the match going fans, it is for the stay at home sat on their arse follower and for the continuation of the cash cow created by the television companies.

I did say poorly worded, and that's what it was. Regardless though, they are entitled to an explanation from the PL as to why it was cancelled. That's who their frustration is aimed at.

Where was the faux outrage when Newcastle had to postpone their game? If it’s because of fans attending surely that’s more reason to postpone the game.

It is more the notice period of a few hrs that seems to be what more sensible people are on about.

Villa v newcastle was cancelled a couple of days before.

It does show the stupidity of aranging this game two days after we already played, once we had in outbreak in the squad the game should have been pushed back a few days as a precaution of the chance more would test positive.

If that had happened and everton would have had a few days notice I expect their statement would be less confrontational and open to interpretation.

Fans online bleatimg on are not worth the bandwith tbf

It also shows how the prems covid rules are about cash not health, London had a massive surge and went into tier 4, all games in tier 4 shpuld have been postponed imediately unless safety was gaurenteed, apparently it maybe can be traced back to our stay in London for Arsenal, so we were put at risk intentionally for the sake of a football game.

I hope that City are not getting special treatment and the Premier League come out with a strong case for their reasoning in short order to avoid the negative spotlight being cast on the club by Everton...which I’m absolutely stunned to read.

By all appearances, it appears the “spread incident” took place at the London hotel for the Arsenal game, then was UNKNOWINGLY brought back to the Etihad Training Complex, where it has been spread to multiple players and staff. Given the increase in players from 2 to 5, it would probably be safe to assume there will be more positive tests amongst the players and staff, and given that (even with current negative test results for more than 14 players), it is being considered UNSAFE for the club to field players who have definitely been in close contact with the infected players and staff.

I’m assuming those extra 3 players were infected before the last game, so it’ll be interesting to see if there was any spread to Newcastle players and/or staff.

Regardless, City do not have the power to have made ANY decision on postponement of games, the Premier League has done that, so we should be Scott free.

From here, it’ll be a matter of how many multiple negative tests we can generate within the squad that will determine if games go forward. I’d be surprised if this went beyond this one game, as I think multiple tests over the ne t few days will clear sufficient squad players that we will be GORCED to play under the 14 man policy put in place. Now it’s down to how many, and which, players are affected!

As per our statement PL after strong medical advice and with consultation with two clubs wanted to postpone the game.

They want to try and have a go at 3 points that is what it is. No words about recovery of our players/staffs and who knows how many are going to be affected. Disgusting statement .

Everton have to refund 2000 people and will have had paid for the nights security, policing etc.

They have seen their arse over the short notice peeiod by the sound of it and so them losing money, though I would hope cash is not deemed more important than peoples health.

If communication between the clubs had been open and clear I’m not sure this would have resulted in that incendiary statement

It’s could be the 15-16 fa cup game against Chelsea all over again !

I hear you mate, and want to clarify I absolutely believe the situation IS serious and the game should have been postponed.

I'm not quite clear on what I said implied otherwise. It's more about the timing that the information was given to Everton (so they claim - and WHOSE REASONING CAN ALSO BE CRITIQUED) not what one does with this information with little time to do anything other than postpone the game for safety reasons.

And once again, for those reading I AM NOT BACKING EVERTON'S STATEMENT since I can see how some might think this.

Again, I think the issue Everton has is the timing of the release of information not the itself and the postponement on its own with the revelations.

Everton appear to be insinuating that/trying to explore if City held the COVID cases so late that the game had to be postponed, rather than report the info sooner and have an "independent body" determine who was at risk and if the game needed to be postponed. They also seem to be wondering if the PL just glossed over the timing for whatever/some reasons (not necessarily due to some malicious intent or conspiracy).

Here's the BBC's reporting on Everton's view which is pretty much what I suspected at a minimum was the case (even if one also argues it's "counter-intelligence":

Now, does that mean they have to post that statement? That's arguably an even bigger question.

What if it was discovered City knew of the cases days ago but didn't tell the PL until Monday? I don't know the answer, and does not mean City are "guilty" of anything either, but I can tell you neutrals would sure want to know why.

Respect, btw, but you told me to have some class, and I think that is a misunderstanding on what I'm saying.
Why are you waffling on about timings? These things happen very quickly and there was only 48 hours between our fixtures.

Here are your three points:

1) The total players City would have out for the game would NOT be enough to postpone the game

2) City waited until the last minute to announce the cases and then be vague because they knew this would allow for a postponement

3) City are doing this basically because they would have lost several key players at the very last minute which would put them at a disadvantage in a huge game but they agreed to the rules for COVID so they should have to deal

The first one suggests we have broken rules.

The second one suggests we manipulated the timings to suit an agenda (God, the irony of that statement).

The third one suggests our motivation was not safety of all concerned. In fact it says more than that, it infers that Everton are annoyed that an opportunity to take advantage of the situation has been taken from them.

Like I said show some class, this is the kind of reaction I would expect from the coach wreckers, you are better than that.

What the fuck is that username about then @toffee balls lmao
It was a play on the original tune behind Niall Quinn’s DIsco Pants.
I was a bit younger and naive back in 2004 and I have thought about changing it several times.Ric himself once accused me of a similar crime during a heated debate.

This virus not only turns blue on red , black on white , brother on brother and family on each other , it’s vile and let’s hope we are seeing the sting in its tail.

One thing we have learned from this is that Everton football club believe the Covid conspiracy theory.....

"Everton Football Club regret the postponement of tonight’s match against Manchester City - not only for the 2,000 fans who would have been attending, but for supporters on Merseyside and across the world.

Our players were prepared for the game, as were both the team staff and everyone at Goodison. Matchday is the most important date in our calendar. And this was a big one.

Whilst Everton will always have public safety uppermost, we will be requesting full disclosure of all the information that Manchester City provided to the Premier League so the Club can be clear on why this decision was taken."

And all of this happens because the world is waiting, waiting for one child Black, white, yellow, no-one knows
But a child that will grow up and turn tears to laughter,
Hate to love, war to peace and everyone to everyone's neighbour
And misery and suffering will be words to be forgotten, forever

absolutely classless. The mind boggles. Do they want us to take a load of infected people to there Tier 2 City and infect them?
