Everton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

The points are more than satisfactory, we weren't very creative for the middle 60 odd minutes, passes going astray, Everton grew into the game. We didn't look troubled, thought Josko in particular was fantastic.

Young Nico has the very welcome habit of scoring some very timely goals, looking forward to seeing him in the middle. Ortega did seem to kick out of touch a few times, probably thinking of rugby! However he did make some very good saves.

Nico G had a quiet game but don't think that starting mid was right. Marmoush has so much energy but again it's about playing to his strengths. Great impact by the subs particularly Doku and Kovacic. Nunes also had an excellent game.

Anyway Newcastle getting tattered at Villa sets up our game on Tuesday with the Brumms, hopefully they'll be knackered!

Hopefully we will clinch CL qualification; think the club world cup will deplete our players before another long world cup season next year.

Remember the days when Milan had it seemed a 50 man s title winning squad! Think Hugo is going hammer that cheque book this summer.

If we were fighting for the title and ground out a result like that everyone would have said what a great three points. Results not performances matter at this stage of the season. Take the points, move on to a huge game on Tuesday.
I can't go to the match and it wasn't televised so the pub was not an option - I won't see it until I can watch it on City+, but I think you may well be spot on with your view. City certainly couldn't afford to lose today and a draw would have left us chasing Newcastle, Villa and Forest and vulnerable to Chelsea. In 6th place, staring at possible 7th with only 5 to play to make up the ground. Fortunately City have got used to having to win games in the run in, usually to win the title, but nevertheless the experience may prove invaluable. And let's admit this was a game in which we could easily have dropped 2 or 3 points. Everton are a good team with a very good, astute manager and I expected them to go for our throats right from the off. It doesn't sound as though they did but the draw was not ideal, and they don't concede many at Goodison. Have any of the "big teams" won there? Not Liverpool or Arsenal! So if City played rather conservatively for a period I can well understand why. It certainly sounded like we raised the tempo and intensity in the final quarter and we got the result in the end. To my mind that is more likely to be learning from experience and using it rather than any lucky, late win.

Great result and we defended well throughout. Not sure i’m seeing that Nico Gonzales is good enough for us. Can’t see him starting many matches next season.

Huge 3pts but we were worryingly far from our best but got the job done, real test v villa cos they looked seriously good tonight

Only just logged on so not seen any previous posts . My bro & nephew went to Goodison today and said KDB was clapped every corner . I think that’s class from Everton fans
I made a point of looking towards the Palace fans last week when he was subbed and thought they would applaud him off but maybe only a handful did.

From 30 minutes to the substitutions, that was fucking drab.

But. 3 points is 3 points, and we were the better side. Another opposition with 11 men behind the ball.

The saddest thing is Bernardo.
Up to 2 years ago, he was sensational.
Now, he's fallen off a proverbial cliff
Not sure he did that much wrong really, and better than KdB, who appeared to be colour blind to me.

I was at work today so was getting updates from my negative friend. After about 25 minutes he sent me a text "Savinho is easily the worst player ever to play for city ". I then asked him if he remembered the 80s and 90s
I know. When it comes to football people lose the ability to think.

Good start. Faded off a bit towards the end of the first half with Gundo and Marmoush completely invisible and Kev Savinho and bernardo ineffective

First half hour of the second half was awful. Seemingly no desire to beat an awful everton team whose players or fans didn't seem particularly arsed and we should have been losing with that branthwaite header. Sorted it out for the last 15 but another tough watch for the most part. Big game tuesday but I fancy us at home (unless pep starts gundo, Bernie, kev and kovacic)

O reilly has saved our arses multiple times this season and sorted that left back spot out and even the defence with gvardiol looking like a rolls royce so far at centre half
We got well on top after 60 minutes. Not as "shark" as we were but it was looking a lot better.
