Everton (A) Post Match Thread

Is that Paul Merson’s verdict? Sky missed one when they had a clear out of the old deadwood.

Collymore said, per Daily Mirror: “If he thinks he’s going to turn up and outplay everybody in the Premier League, and that teams like Watford, Leicester, Bournemouth, Southampton and Crystal Palace are going to let his Manchester City side have the ball for 90 per cent of the time and pass pretty patterns around them so they can get a result, then he is absolutely deluded.

“In fact, he is beyond deluded. And if he thinks he doesn’t need to teach tackling or one-on-one combat in training then he’ll be going back to Spain with his tail between his legs.”
He should stick to dogging.

Ok. Great game. Sad we didn't get that clean sheet. Especially for Laporte.

Slowish first half, bit of a sloppy goal to concede, but then it was a bit of a half chance and a bit of luck for them.

Classic 2nd half under Pep, absolutely dominate. Don't think I've ever seen a manager as good as him when it comes to changing tactics or slight things during half time to basically take a not so great first half and just dominate the second half. Genius.

Riyad, Jesus, Rodri, Bernardo all class, everyone else played at a very good level too.

17 in a row now. Wow! this team is special, real special. Onto Arsenal.

He was when we were shit as it gave him a bit of street cred.
Now he just tries to go with the arsenal agenda and please the masses so he can stay relevant to their fan clubs.
To be perfectly honest I think he is even more shallow than that, he goes with the flow to hang onto his punditry career. The new breed of intelligent ex-players will push him off tv.

Everton disrupted our game tonight, so fair play to them, and we weren't at our best for me, but the important thing is we got the result, and again restricted a team to just 3 goal attempts, whilst still creating plenty ourselves.

We're not up there creating 27 attempts a game any more, but we're still in the high teens, and we've started to be much more efficient with those chances, and when we concede so few, it's pretty inevitable we'll win games.

I think when you look at this team tonight it was pretty much all players Pep brought in, and they have adapted to play a different game than 2-3 years ago, and become far more efficient as a result.

I felt we were better than at our best, Cleavers.

It’s a credit to Everton IMO, who despite the score line, were largely excellent. Tactically spot on, the toughest opponent we have faced for some time.

We really had to work for those goals today, they were brilliantly crafted. No team, even with the best defensive discipline and intent, could have stopped those last 2. The movement, the passing, and the finishing (although Pickford should have saved the 3rd) were all as good as it gets for me.
