Everton (A) Post Match Thread

He's quite open about his shift in loyalties from being a teenage, match going, City fan to now being an Arsenal 'supporter' based purely, and understandably, on him having had a hugely successful playing career at the club. I'd hazard a guess that the truth is that whilst he'd like to see Arsenal being successful he really doesn't have a great deal of interest or passion for the game in general these days. He comes across as someone who'd rather be doing something else other than being a TV pundit but it's 'easy money' for little effort, which is about as much as he puts into it.
Used to play footie with Lee;
nice lad and his Dad a top bloke.
I imagine he sees himself as one of the more cerebral pundits ( not hard ) , but his logic let him down badly last night.

The frustrating thing is that in terms of raw skill Mahrez is arguably our most gifted player. He was unplayable last night but he has to become more consistent and work harder in all our games. That said that I think Pep is managing the entire squad brilliantly this season and everyone is playing their part by producing the best football I have ever seen.
We have never dictated the pace of matches like we are doing now. We used to blow teams away in 20 minute spells but now we are toying with our opponents and resting at the same time. This is the sign of a truly great side. This is what Brazil did in the heat of the Mexico World Cup in 1970. A sort of slow, slow, quick, quick, slow routine. No one has ever done this in this country (Ajax did it in Europe for a bit in the 70s)
Pretty much a case of opposition team continually burn themselves out trying to keep with us and by the 55th minute mark they're gassed, the spaces begin to open up, mentally they can't maintain it and that's when we take advantage.

Anyone else completely forget there were champions league knock-out stages being played at the same time last night?

I can't decide if we are in second or third gear?

It's quite remarkable. City remind me of Bayern last season?

They started off slowly and then it was like watching the tyres get to optimum temperature on Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes!

The problem with always being in 2nd gear is teams sometimes forget how to find 3rd, 4th, 5th etc. when they need to over 45 or 90 minutes.

Possibly, but we are exhibiting levels of control in games that suggests our opponents can't, or don't want to find out?

There is a mental superiority which we are imparting on our opponents now. It surely stems from the complete eradication of a soft underbelly which could be counter-attacked.

Ancelotti is someone I hugely respect and his admissions last night were very telling. His team wasn't able to compete at the level required to even leave it in the balance after an hour.

I'd like to hope that staying in a lower gear will serve us plenty in the truly big matches to come.

I don't think Richarlison took his eyes off Dias and Laporte all game, Lord knows how the ref didn't call him on it.

Well, we do know I suppose.

Richarlison is a proper little woman. Look at the fucking size of him then watch how even the slightest bit of wind knocks him for six and leaves him rubbing some part of his body is complete agony.

He got absolutely schooled last night and apart from being in the right place at exactly the right time created the square root of fuck all. He's a better than average footballer with some decent touches, on a good day.

Constantly has a look on his face like an 18 stone bloke has dropped a huge shit on his chest 5 seconds previously.

Wanker.

The Borussia Monchengladbach games will be telling. Knock out football so no one is going to sit back, Marco Rose is a very good tactician. They are

I think we could do with a statement win to show our top level and put the fear into some of the European sides.
