EVERTON VS MANCHESTER CITY

Although Marco Silva got a good result in the week against Sheffield Wednesday, he is under serious pressure. Their home form was good and then they bombed against Sheffield United. I don't know what their agenda is. They signed Moise Kean, who looks lively and decent, but has been given very little service, and then you have Richarlison, who sometimes doesn't look interested, and the talented Gylfi Sigurdsson behind. Idrissa Gueye going to PSG was a big blow. They brought on Theo Walcott and Cenk Tosun against the Blades and took Bernard off, who was their best player.

What is Silva's goal? If they concede first, what are they going to do? And what happened to Tom Davies? He is on the bench but isn't close to the first team. City will keep the ball and pick Everton off when they attack. Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus are all scoring. They recovered pretty well from embarrassment at Norwich.

CHARLIE PREDICTS: 1-3

Checked a coupla Everton fan forums and they mostly seemed resigned to a defeat. Lotsa pessimistic toffees.

True, but isn’t that game the exception? We’ve wine a few other games there but that’s the only one I can remember as being relatively easy

last season was fairly comfortable as well I felt, under the circumstances

We can't afford to drop any points, even if Sheff Utd serve up a surprise against the red dippers. On the other hand, a spanking from City could put Silva out of a job. A surprisingly high stakes game for so early in the season. Should be a belter! Prediction: 2-5.

2-5??????

Are you for real? If it is, I'll send you some money - if only for your blind faith

I always hate playing Everton. They usually raise their game against us and although we’ve won the last 3, we drew 2 and lost one of the previous 3 so their record against us is better than most. They need a win badly. They're not a bad side, though struggling for goals but their confidence is brittle. First goal is absolutely vital.

Our recent 5.30 kick off record isn’t great so I’ve a bad feeling about this one.

I'd be surprised if a defeat at the hands of City would trigger Silva getting the push - most of the other teams in the PL are probably going to suffer the same fate at some time this season. The exception might be if it were another 8-0 tonking (or 0-8 for the pedants) but as long as Everton are vaguely competitive then I couldn't see Saturday's result changing things much. Unless they win, of course....

Didn't fancy this game when it was put on Saturday night TV.

They are not great but will be a big threat at set pieces and corners, no doubt.

Shame Laporte and Leroy are missing.

Heart says 4-1 masterclass.

Head says we get fucked over for a loss or a draw.

Sums up how I see it. It’s too early in this season for Everton fans to be half hoping we get a result to screw over Liverpool so I’d expect Goodison to be rocking at kick off. One of those matches we really need to take control early and silence the crowd.
