Everton (FA Cup) Post Match Thread

After most of our games I usually take a quick look at the oppositions fans forum to see what they make of the game. Looking at Everton's Grand Old Team forum I was expecting the worse as they are undoubtedly mostly scousers. It was a pleasant surprise to read that the vast majority accepted that the best team won and class told in the end. Yes they defended well and put the effort in, but they all acknowledged that they were second best and that we truly have a fantastic team. In fairness most other forums are usually fair and balanced, but I just didn't expect it from Everton's, so well done to them. Comparing Everton fan comments to those made by all Livarpool's is just chalk and cheese. Those red neighbours of theirs are just deluded cults, very similar to our red neighbours!

Thats because most of their fans are not scousers. But although we can be frustrated with our own team, lament the tactics and all the rest if it. There is no shame in being beaten by a better team.

The most you can ask for is to compete and put a shift in, hoping that a mistake, lack of concentration or a good but of luck goes your way on the day. I was as wound up as any fan watching us in the first 30 mins as it was like watching the kids chasing the big boys around then when they had the ball kick it up quick.

But after that we settled a bit and although still not great, done much better. But ultimately it wasnt enough and tiredness is always going to be a factor when you dont have the ball so you just keep probing waiting for a chance, with the quality to take it 8 times out of 10.

You forget also, they arnt normal fans, thats a cult more than a fanbase

Merson in the daily Star today saying how Everton can beat us the drugs and alcohol and a clown is born
Tbf they could on another day, I think that since Dec they have been the toughest game of the top 6 - excluding of course the winners of the derby trophy who turned up for their annual final.

*edit - obviously I'm not suggesting Merson isn't a brain addled degenerate addict.

Totally different people. Real decent scousers not rent a crowd from Ireland and Norway.

Everton set up to stifle our normal route to goal by defending in numbers and narrow when we got near the box. They were snidey at times and got away with a lot of dirty stuff. At least we didn’t concede a penalty, but I’m sure Oliver was just itching to give one.
Foden was fantastic again. His energy and desire to go past players is beautiful to watch.
All those Sterling lovers need to remove the blue tinted specs and realise he needs to improve his game to justify starting in this team. He was subbed and 3 mins 20 seconds later we score! Coincidence?
Fernandinho deserves a mention, he is the ultimate professional, and to let him go would be shocking. He can nurture, mentor and shape the future blues and I would love to see him do that after his playing days are done.
I want him to be back to his best but he looks like he doesn’t care less and is just going through the motions. It will upset some, but so what. He can’t command a ransom and turn out dross game after game.
We deserved that win, I know it sounds disrespectful to the toffees, but they had no intention to take us on, and who would blame them.
Onward to the next game. As the bald fraud said.

Is it complaining or stating a fact as in we have a long way to go? You have spent more money than us and bought quality for the money. We have wasted a chunk but are slowly starting to improve (James, Allan, Doucoure and Godfrey for £60m) But also you have evolved over 10 years or so to the point where you are now sustainable. We need to spend more this summer to improve our team again but its a huge gulf

Every team needs to spend money to move forward and improve, the more you have the more you are able to spend. There will always be one or two that say that crap but ask them would they swap it so we were in that position they will say yes. Ignore them
Is it just the amount spent or the way you use it. If you look back at the amount spurs have spent over the years and the players they had (Klinsman,Gascoigne,Lineker etc at one time) and won fuck all, Liverpool under Houllier alone bought 49 players and most were flops and never won the Prem. So my point being having money doesn't guarantee anything unless there is a formula in place and a good manager that can mould those players into a system.

Too long for me to read it all, but agree with the first & last sentence ;-)

Considering Sterling's shooting ability, he should have been benched a long time ago.

The difference is that grand old team will be used by mainly local genuine match going fans.. whilst RAWK is infested by cultish deluded wankers who have never set foot in Merseyside and couldn’t find Anfield on a map

scousers aren’t the problem..Liverpool fans are the problem

That’s a fair shout. Just having money isn’t enough, as we found out in 2008. We had to have a sustained period near the top of the league to tempt better players.

You're in the Adebayor/Robinho/Milner/Bellamy/Bridge etc level signing. If you can break the top 4 with your versions, you’ll then start to attract unsettled players at the top clubs.

Exactly. We have had the Iwobi's, Gylfi's, Klassens, Schneiderlins etc for big fees trying to chase the top teams and it was awful. We seem to have improved there along with bringing a world class manager in.

Its all about recruitment. You can spend a lot or a little but if you bring in the wrong players then its pointless. Hopefully Carlo's second summer sees a couple more quality additions and we can see another improvement. With him and hopefully European football then its an attraction but as you say the better the quality you bring in the more chance of CL or a trophy, which in turn attracts better players.

Excellent post, I called out Sterling on the match day forum and got the expected response. The truth is he’s just not been good enough. Many fans were calling for him to be replaced by KDB early in the
second half and as soon as he was we scored and the game was won. He needs a lot more bench time. At the moment we are a much better team without him.

Yep. We learned that lesson throwing big wages at players such as Walcott, Delph, Schneiderlin, Bolasie etc. All terrible buys for different reasons and you are stuck with them due to the age and wages.

Thankfully thats changed now but its set us back massively as a lot of the owners money has been wasted. Thankfully he seems happy to put more in, but its frustrating thinking where we coukd be now if we had better recruitment the last 5-6 years.

What a win!! De Bruyne changed the game for me. Hopefully no injuries over internationals and we go again. Business end of the season let’s go for it all. Come on city
The relentless tick, tock passing wears teams out even if they park the bus - so when we bring an elite skill player on there's going to be spaces opening up, especially after they and Pep have watched the patterns the oppo are comfortable settling into.

It's awesomeness in motion.

I think the abuse Sterling gets normally goes above and beyond, but he is the only regular first teamer in a genuine rough patch, and in one of the most sought after positions in the team. I hope the international break gives him a break and he comes back ready for the run in.

How good was Aymeric Laporte today both defensively and going forward. He took the game by the scruff of the neck in the last 15 mins carrying the ball forward and played a huge part in the opening goal, Superb display.

We were fantastic today. Everton never looked like laying a glove on us. Once we scored they were that fucked from chasing then ball they had nothing left to give, We wore them down mentally and physically.

Finalists in the Carabao Cup
Semi-finalists in the FA Cup
Quarter-finalists in the CL
14 points clear in the Premier

Pep is very definitely a total fraud.

Fraudiola is right.
