Everton (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

They are the worst in a long line of sides that do it. The games are just losing their entertainment factor now and watching them is a dull experience. Imagine paying £60 for that!

We are victims of our own success and gifting sloppy goals all season has given teams like Everton the hope that they will grab a goal even if they just sit back all game.

I was fuming at their anti football tactics today but what can we do! Refs just allow it and so they keep doing it,
I thought the ref actually encouraged their antics

He is but he shouldn't be as we should have bought a specialist LB ages ago.
City have rarely had a specialist left back in recent years.

The only ones I can recall are Wayne Bridge, Gael Clichy, Ben Mendy, and Angelino. For much of the period, City used defenders including Kolo Toure at left back but more usually midfielders such as Pablo Zabaleta, and more significantly Fabian Delph, and Olek Zinchenko.

This provides an echo back to the Mercer/Allison era when Glyn Pardoe wore the number three shirt with distinction. Pardoe started out with City as a centre-forward but was usually seen as aa attacking midfielder. He was very similar to Zinchenko in this aspect playing a hybrid role as a defender when out of possession but as a midfielder when in possession.

It gets frustrating at times but because we haven't replaced Mahrez. We're mainly playing Bernado and Foden there and Walker as an advanced wing-back some games. Foden will eventually play mostly in central midfield but for now he's gotta play where the boss wants him.
That guy from Girona that we are after is a genuine winger in the Leroy mould.

Yes, I think we play different systems depending on who is playing on that side. And I think all the various combinations have made it less settled and thus more of a lightning rod for complaints. There is probably room for most combinations depending on the opponent.
Good point about the lightning rod for complaints. A few players have failed early on to get rhythm through different factors.

Clearly Gvardiol and Walker has been that, both through a new role they are learning which gets the best out of Foden but also by both having games that they struggled in. For example.

Winger wise, if Doku did not get his injury then we could be sat here thinking wow he has that spot locked down now where I think that is still fairly open but he is the leading candidate for most games. Maybe it's Foden for the crunch fixtures though.

In the first half an Everton defender was a bit uncomfortable (bent over) after the ball went out but was on his feet. The ref ran 30 yards over to him to ask if he was alright then called on the trainer. FFS! He was working in tandem with them. I believe the correct word is orchestrated.

Thought Walker made a massive difference when he came on, the ball was suddenly moving forward much quicker and we were in their half where as before we looked laboured.
