Everton (H) - Post-Match Thread

Wow, you couldn’t tell we are playing 19 yr old kid in the first 11. Really happy how Palmer understood the game. Taking open shots, passing with intelligence, no fear against the opposition. It feels special to see Foden with all those kids breaking into first team. Hope this is going to be our solid base for a years to come. Not expecting we could provide such defensive performance for a whole game, really nice to see closing the counter attacks how we used to when Kompany was here. This starts to smell like we’re taking over that 1st spot soon. Come on Cityyy!

Pep doesn't play kids apparently

A shame to hear some city fans booing taking the knee, booing a gesture to support equality? Some fucking idiots following us, if you don't like it fine, to actually boo it!!

Personally I've never heard our fans boo this either when I'm at the game or watching on TV

The booing of the knee seems like it is always the same few in SS 315 section.
I sit in 316 and it always seems to come from that area.

There were quite a few cunts booing the taking of the knee today, sounded like it was coming from the CB stand? Why would people do that? Does anyone on here do it or sit next to anyone that does?
I’m in the CB level 2 and can honestly say there were no boo’s from our section.

Sorry HC I am definitely not having a pop at the CB stand, some fine Blues in there, including you, Eccles Blue and Oakie! I am in the Family Stand level 2, doing my best not to swear in there lol, and I definitely heard booing, and do so every game and it seemed like it was coming from that direction, which is what my equally disgusted kids thought too. It only takes a few idiots (trying not to swear) and I fully appreciate 99.9% of those in your stand are fine upstanding people (some of you even cheer and sing lol)

Pep has got them all now understanding the system perfectly and if they stick to it we only look in trouble from someone veering from it, individual mistakes obviously and our pigmol friends. He mentioned that in his post match interview. He said our only problems came when players played too individually. Once we are in front if we keep the ball in the fridge and concentrate we're comfortable.
You could actually see that in the second half for a brief period some point after we'd gone 2 up. A 'well-oiled machine' doesn't even describe our general mode of play, it's like a work of art.

Fair enough, I’m on the last row of CB2 towards the Family stand, I have never heard anyone boo but that’s just around me, my hearing isn’t 100% but it’s a bit of an older generation in there, @meeesh sits not too far away, he may be able to confirm. We have been known to sing, one of my favourites was “La La La La Summerbee” :-)

We played well but we didn't have to go above third gear in the end because Everton were just that bad. Shapeless without the ball, clueless with it - any "threat" they posed died when Gray went off injured. It should worry their fans that Palace and Southampton gave us more of a game. It was actually quite sad watching Seamus Coleman.

As for us, not one bad performance out there. The major standout was Rodri, whose goal I genuinely feel privileged to have seen in the flesh - the rest were just quietly professional and got the job done. Sterling looked the closest to his normal self in months, Bernardo and Gundogan were classy and busy, Palmer gave his best display so far.

We're entering the phase of the season now where the best start to pull away from the rest. West Ham, Villa, Watford, Wolves, Leeds, Newcastle, Leicester, Brentford are our fixtures. 24 points available; any less than 20 and I think we might look back on the Christmas period as a missed opportunity. Let's keep the run going.

It's amazing to watch and like the rags game the opposition can't get the ball if we continue to do it. Only when a player holds onto it too long or tries to dribble past players does it break down and at times cause us problems.

Do they still play the national anthem at the end? I've not been to the pictures for years, and that was the reason people left early.
;-)
They stopped about 40 years ago.
My local fleapit was next door to a pub. Nobody ever saw the denouement of films timed to finish at 10.35.

I think when Rodri plays well it shows that the system is working as Pep wants it to. i.e. he can use his strengths and not be caught up in races against players breaking on us.
I am not saying that he is a poor player that needs special treatment but that like say Jorginho and unlike peak Fernandinho or Kante he thrives when part of a midfield unit designed to maximise his abilities.
The amended role for Bernado makes all the difference. Pep strikes again.
