Everton (H) - Post-Match Thread

As soon as I saw McAtee backheel that ball inside the penalty area and then keep the ball, it was like a David Silva flashback.

Jesus Christ.

Keep making me eat my words, Rodri. With Bernie being your water carrier, you look like a Rolls Royce this season.

Have to agree with Pep, Walker is exhibiting form on a transcendental level.

Laporte is my only concern, every time I've watched him of late, he panics when getting far too touch tight.

Certainly lost a yard or two since the injury.
Bernardo a water carrier?

I don't get the love-in for Rodri. He benefits when teams like Everton come and sit deep. He literally has space in which to play.

The best defensive performer at City at the moment is imo John Stones. And the best forward: Bernardo.

The two most celebrated players: KDB and Grealish have been poor. IMO Sterling should retain his position when fit. KDB's potential is higher than anyone else so there is an argument to play him into form.

Go on I'll bite.

Rodri's performances tailed off a bit at the end of last season has been excellent this season. Superb at Anfield and Stamford Bridge against our main rivals. John Stones has only just started playing this season but yes he is performing well.

I think the days of LA P being the cog to build from are gone. All the players at City have improved including Stones so maybe he has just not done so and needs to learn how to.

Wow, you couldn’t tell we are playing 19 yr old kid in the first 11. Really happy how Palmer understood the game. Taking open shots, passing with intelligence, no fear against the opposition. It feels special to see Foden with all those kids breaking into first team. Hope this is going to be our solid base for a years to come. Not expecting we could provide such defensive performance for a whole game, really nice to see closing the counter attacks how we used to when Kompany was here. This starts to smell like we’re taking over that 1st spot soon. Come on Cityyy!

I think when Rodri plays well it shows that the system is working as Pep wants it to. i.e. he can use his strengths and not be caught up in races against players breaking on us.
I am not saying that he is a poor player that needs special treatment but that like say Jorginho and unlike peak Fernandinho or Kante he thrives when part of a midfield unit designed to maximise his abilities.

Rodri isn't quick like Fernandinho or Kante so he needs to anticipate well so not to get caught up in races or on the wrong side of the play. When he plays well it's as much a sign that he is doing his stuff just as much as the system. Rodri is a vital part of the system now and like you say we have to play to his strengths and not Fernandinho's
