Everton Post Match Thread

I thought we were piss first half but I thought we were pretty good 2nd half & unlucky not to win even before the pen, which was beyond a fucking joke.

Some of our defending first half was beyond a joke but I thought 2nd half was the best Otamendi has played for us & he showed signs that he might be coming to terms with the Prem. Demi was comical 1st half but he too looked a bit more like his old self 2nd half. He is really on the limit though.

We pushed right up a bit Pep style 2nd half & Everton struggled to cope. But as a team, we are disfunctional. Even when dominating completely, there were so many poor decisions & missed opportunities for runs passes etc. Where I'm sat, I can see what Navas & DeBruyne were looking at when they got the ball 2nd half & basically it's 10 Everton shirts. There is nobody to pass to, at all. They can't cross in the air so they have to try & push it through playrrs legs, but Aguero is nowhere to be seen in that area anyway & he is the only bloke in there.

Sagna put in a beauty of a cross, head height & an Everton pkayer headed it over the bar with no City player anywhere to be seen. It would have been food & drink for the Goat, a simple goal. A typical Championship team would score it 9 times out of 10. We had nobody there.

Even during what I thought was a good 2nd half, there were so many things wrong, we are nowhere near what we could be. Not even 50%.

I sit in CB 130 pretty much at the back. Great view for me in the 2nd half most weeks.

4 or 5 times Sterling had the ball at the by line. I play the game non professionally and have done for a number of years. That doesn't make me an expert, but when he got there, I'm looking up. And I can't believe it. There isn't a fucking soul in the box. In fact we are all stood on the edge of it. So it goes back and then gets played around the edge of the box. It literally is like watching Arsenal. I also think it's a tactic

For a team with so much pace on either side I find it totally perplexing that we don't support the play in our box when attacking. We don't go forward in numbers.

Like you said, meat and drink to championship sides tonight. They'd have scored a fuckload.

Just watched the Sky replay. It was the clearest penalty that you will ever see and the referee couldn't have been better placed, which makes him either inept or bent.

To add insult to injury, that little greasy shit of a manager that Everton have (who most people seem to think is 'alright', but personally I think is a nauseating shithouse), comes out with a pathetic defender of the referee's decision.

It will be sweet to knock Everton out of the Cap One, if only to see and hear the handwringing and little boy lost routine of their shithouse manager.

Nice try , Everton didnt deserve anything from that game , and they certainly didnt "outplay" us in the 1st half , they had a 10-15 minute spell and no more , and it doesnt matter if Sterling wasnt going anywhere ,it was a penalty which would have resulted in a well earned victory ,
I just think the ref saw that Stirling was going nowhere, stones tried to pull out and Stirling played for a penalty.we shouldn't have to resort to desperate acts like that to gain a victory. We should be able to break teams down and win fair and square.I'm glad the ref called it right and i understand people's frustrations at dropping 2pts.

Got to try to sign John Stones what a fucking player !! Not seen a defender that good on the ball in a long long time

What about diving in needlessly at the end which on any other day would of resulted in him giving a penalty away in the last 10 seconds? He's good on the ball but he's really not that special as a defender.

Said the same thing all night. get another man up front. Time and time again we had no one attacking the cross. we had good crosses going in. To the near post etc but AGuero can't be everywhere and our midfield is not able to attack. If we are going to play with width then we need to have players attacking the ball.

In a proper 433, when one winger has the ball in a crossing position, the striker should be attacking either the penalty spot or the near post, while the winger on the opposite flank should be attacking the far post. Preferably a midfielder should be arriving on the edge of the box ala Lampard as well. We do none of those things and it's a complete waste.

I also wonder if it's deliberate, but if it is, then what is supposed to happen ? Barca for instance, have players hovering outside the box like that but then they have runners breaking the line & will flip a ball over the top or between the cbs & fullback & get someone in behind then several.will attack the penalty area.

Or are we supposed to pass it to the edge of the box & shoot ? Whatever it's supposed to be, it's nowhere near working properly.

That's because Aguero is coming short for the ball. When it reaches the flanks he's having to bust a gut to get in the box and we just don't have the mobility in the middle of the park to support the attack. How many of our CM players have scored this season?

We are dysfunctional as a unit right now and I don't see a way out. We are just not playing well enough.

We have no right to assume we will be champions. We are not playing well enough. We can start not winning at home given our away record.

tbf he was played at right back, the potential is there though

Midfielders don't support the attack and I don't think we play between the lines well enough for a team with so many technically gifted footballers. We don't get in between CBs. We get to the edge of the penalty box and stop. Or go wide and then back to the edge of the box again. Rinse and repeat.

It's my belief that we are trying to do exactly what Barca do. We just don't do it well enough, and well, only Barcelona can do what Barcelona do as effectively as they do.

Aguero should be trying to get in front of the defenders most times when the ball goes wide imo. Attacking the near post, centre. Too often he is behind the defender & impossible to pass to. If ye is going to do that, we need a new Negredo type cf to aim at.

Then again it's all academic if Pep is coming as it will be different again then.

You know Mourinho as much of a twat he is would be making sure EVERYONE knew of these decisions and would likely get something cheap in future games.

If you keep doing it you look like a broken record though. In the end, Mourinho looked like a dick because he was blaming the refs for everything
Aye, you're right = by the strict laws of the game it was a foul therefore a pen., but there's the spirit of the game too and because he went looking for it I'm not sorry it wasn't given. Excuse me for being so Corinthian, there's still a few of us left.

He didn't go looking for it mate. Not sure he even expected it. As for being Corinthian...I'm off listening to some more Bowie.

Totally agree , looks fucking great on the ball , like Moore and to a degree Ferdinard , the thing about Stones he won't make it ,he does not really wanna defend properly ,the dirty side of things could be wrong but I won't be

Very altruistic of you, but that's nonsense. It was as clear a penalty as you could wish to see. Spirit of the game?! Come on...

There would have been uproar if that penalty claim wasn't given and it was the semi final,it would have taken us through to extra time and to Wembley on away goals if no further score. I agree with Martinez too I am beginning to want to punch that smug face more and more!

I think you will be wrong on this one. Stones has showed all the right things, plus more, at his age. Gonna be quality. Sign him up
