Everton - Post match thread.

We shouldnt no. But you would be disappointed as an amateur if you did what Sane did. That is basic. He was playing like he was in their half not his own. He is so far out of his depth it will be an age before he is fully functional as a wing back. And why the hell do we want him to be one? He is one of the best players I have seen running with the ball and at his age should be doing that first and foremost.

I get that Pep wants attacking wing backs above defensive but our team need to adapt to the 3 at the back system with players at wing back who are comfortable. At least to start with.

Walker wasnt doing what he needed to in an attacking sense though. You could see De Bruyne gesture for him to make the run in behind but he wasnt. The key to our current system is the wing backs stretching play to allow space for Silva De Bruyne Aguero and Jesus but it isnt working. I would like to see how a back 4 looks with Walker and Mendy when both are available.

I guarantee you will see the wingbacks lose possession there on numerous occasions in the future. If each one ends in a goal, it will be because we are not a title chalenging team.

More likely, few will even end up with a shot, we will just deal with it & play.

I'm surprised no-one has picked up on the small amount of added time. 5 substitutions, 1 goal, 1 sending off, and I believe two longish 'injuries'. On top of that, much time wasting by Everton from the kick-off. So how did they come up with only 4 minutes?

Agree with all of this. Pep's attack in small spaces and defend large spaces is a fascinating watch in terms of how it will go in this league.

I posted some while back that if you look at Chelsea's games last season, and compare them to ours, it is STAGGERING how much space Chelsea were allowed to play in.

Over 4 or 5 seasons, we have shown pretty much every opposing manager that if they want to go toe to tow with us, they'll get reamed. The only exception I can think of pretty much is Spurs last season, who had a good go at us. Other than that, everyone else sits back and soaks it up, waiting for their chance, which invariably comes.

Realising this however, is not the answer, since we've been doing the same now for years. The question is, what changes do we need to fix it? One thing that strikes me is that on the break, we are usually lethal. So we absolutely must make sure than when such chances arise, we maximise them. If our opponents lose possession in their own half, we have a quick opportunity to pounce before they get organised again.

We absolutely must flood forward at speed - none of this stopping just outside their area and waiting bollocks. In on goal, as fast as we possibly can.

All the other top contenders are tighter at the back & have the option of a more traditional centre forward.

What? 1-0 up at half time against ten men, then conceding approx. 70% (?) possession and a late equaliser? And showing zero ambition to come out for a win?

I think not.

"Deserved their point?" as in "they were as good as us"? No, of course not.

Deserved as in they came to do a job and got it done? Hard to say they did not. Conceding 70% of possession was always in their game plan, I am certain.

Because the bookies were shutting at ten and the ref had to get there to pick up his winnings.
