Everton - Post match thread.

If you look at last season, for example, most games where we lost, our opponents only had one or two chances, but they took them. Is that because they are better at finishing than we are? No. It's because they were clear-cut, wide open, golden opportunities where we were pressing high and got caught out strung all over the place and out of position.

We have tons of "chances" which are in fact half whiffs of a chance, with the opponents packing the area and Messi at his best would do well to score. I am not saying they are ALL like that, clearly there's the odd sitter too. But equally 19 shots on goal and scoring only 1, doesn't tell the whole story.

Agree with all of this. Pep's attack in small spaces and defend large spaces is a fascinating watch in terms of how it will go in this league.

The team who wins the title, will win a decent number of games 1-0 & even moreso, will be winning 1-0 at half time. Not 0-1.

No doubt at all but before Rooney scores Silva should score. If we go a goal up their entire mindset has to change. What will be interesting this season will be what we do when 1 up. Last season we dropped points to Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea and Boro from winning positions. We rarely did that the seasons we won the league.

We should not be conceding a goal, just because a wingback loses the ball.

It will happen on many occasions, whoever plays there.

We can't defend properly, with a two or a three & becase of that, we are unable to win tight games.

We shouldnt no. But you would be disappointed as an amateur if you did what Sane did. That is basic. He was playing like he was in their half not his own. He is so far out of his depth it will be an age before he is fully functional as a wing back. And why the hell do we want him to be one? He is one of the best players I have seen running with the ball and at his age should be doing that first and foremost.

I get that Pep wants attacking wing backs above defensive but our team need to adapt to the 3 at the back system with players at wing back who are comfortable. At least to start with.

Walker wasnt doing what he needed to in an attacking sense though. You could see De Bruyne gesture for him to make the run in behind but he wasnt. The key to our current system is the wing backs stretching play to allow space for Silva De Bruyne Aguero and Jesus but it isnt working. I would like to see how a back 4 looks with Walker and Mendy when both are available.

Showed a lot of spirit to stick at it last night, but I just cannot get my head around how much we gave the ball away. Baffles me how players of this calibre of so capable of doing it on such a regular basis throughout the game! I'm not a fan of this formation at all. It's too slow and the defending for the goal was awful... How an opposition player can be left unmarked in a position like that in our area is frightening. Fern, Silva & Aguero were poor & Sane shouldn't be played at LWB which seems fairly obvious now. I'd like to see us go to that front 3 of Sterling, Jesus & Sane again to see how it works as they seemed to gel nicely last season before Jesus got injured. I don't know how far off Gundogan & Mendy are, but this would be my ideal team for Saturday...

Ederson

Danilo Kompany Stones Mendy

Gundogan

KDB Bernardo

Sterling Jesus Sane

Well personally what a negative bunch of twots some of you are, I loved last night, improve the finishing and teams won't stand a chance, just the finishing...the defence is as good as its been, we look solid however going forward we play with flow and precision, we just need our scoring boots... don't forget we played blue dippers who have been a bogie team for us and also a top 6/8 team, so challenging. Only the sneidershite first booking should have stood...all the others were absolutely abysmal and referees need to be certain and stop guessing, You people that say walkers first challenge was a booking need to go and have a lie down, booking if he was out of control and heading into the player yes, however walker just crossed the path of the diving everton prick, no contact what so ever. We played some sublime football last night instigated by the directorship of Pep. we will improve game on game and win the league, I've been watching football long enough to know that even with 10 men we wiped the floor with the blue dippers just finishing let us down.

I also enjoyed last night, but coming out of the ground some of the natives were getting restless already. I must have been at a completely different game last night. Most media pieces basically stating Everton deserved the 3 points. They say Koeman likes to play football but that was total hoofball from them and totally anti-football. Imagine watching that every week! It's going to be a very interesting season. Being totally honest whilst I love the football we play whether it will work in the premier league I just don't know. It's all about pace and strength and that's why the rags will be there or there abouts. Would I want to watch that every week not a chance but it works unfortunately. I really hope Peps football wins the day or else the quality of football in the league will just get worse. However, we must start with Sterling we are just not as dangerous without him in the side. For me he is becoming first name in the teamsheet. Lots of positives though and think we will certainly be challenging on all fronts this season. Bring on the next game.

What? 1-0 up at half time against ten men, then conceding approx. 70% (?) possession and a late equaliser? And showing zero ambition to come out for a win?

I think not.

We almost blew it on poor defending under Pellegrini, even when scoring 100+ goals. Just scraped through in spite of it. But only that one season.

Imo, the wonderful thing about last night, was what we did when a goal down. The only game I can ever think of when City played with that much domination & skill with ten men, was Keegan's side v Millwall, but that was a lower league version. It's one thing putting up a fight, but we were fucking all over Everton.

To dominate like that v Everton is incredible. It could easily have been 3 or 4 second half. When Walker was sent off, their fans would have expected them to take over the game & why not ? They have spent plenty & are going for top 4-6 places.

We clearly have the spirit to win the title. Just need to tighten up, particularly at the back.

Bernardo and Donilio pleasantly surprised me last night as prior to their introduction I thought it was same old same old! Cant wait until Mendy starts out. Sterling was great why or why when he had a good season last year and was flying in pre season isn't he in the starting eleven. I hope Sane doesn't revert back into his shell like the beginning of last season by having he confidence dented by having to play left wing back! Keeper looks good distribution wise but seem to fumble the goal!
