just had a quick look - we beat them 2-3 on april 16, 1995 - the year they won it. was wrong about the scorer though - curle, uwe and walsh

Some Everton fans will be torn, but I remember the same feelings when Utd were going for the title in 1992. We beat their rivals Leeds 4-0 and we thought we had given them the title. A few days later we went to Old Trafford in a Derby went down to 10 men and Keith Curle scored a penalty to make it 1-1

It's what Everton players think that matters, and when it comes to the game, Everton fans will be up for it no matter what's said before

it's interesting tbough. remember at the start of the match having mixed emotions about wanting us to win. but as the team started putting in a great performance we were jumping around celebrating like usual when the 3rd went in.
so it goes to show - don't give everton any kind of foothold in the game or any reason to get the crowd going

Overall I think it maybe easier if Everton have less to play for but it's difficult to say. Could work the other way too.

Another fixture that's relevant is WHU v Spurs in the early Saturday KO. If Spurs lose it will be impossible for them to catch Everton, and EFC would be virtually guaranteed to finish 5th.

In other words it's possible EFC could Kick Off knowing that the result will make absolutely no difference to their final league placing and they will finish 5th

But the problem with all this is that pride takes over, and players want to win. As will their fans.

No doubt about it Everton will be all out to win, no matter what the fans want, the team/club will want to win the game, especially whilst ever they have a cchance of 4th. The timing of the arsenal game goes against us massively, if they played at 3 on Sat and beat west brom then Everton will have nothing to play for when they play us and won't be as motivated. As it is with their game on Sunday there is too much at stake for them to not want to win, they will want to put pressure on arsenal.

To an Everton fan it may be seen as helping Liverpool, to the club it could be the difference between millions of pounds and players livelihoods

Very true. Hopefully they will be a little down now that 4th is pretty much out of reach. They would have to lose both games, which isn't going to happen. Particularly vs West Brom and Norwich(who are all but dead). No Barry and Mirallas helps. Key is our tempo. If we come out and play the way we did vs Palace I'm very confident we'll take 3 points. Can't have any coasting in this game and I don't expect any.

The positive is that both of us have to win. When we usually struggle away from home, is with teams looking to counter attack us. As Everton need to go for the win the tactics pretty much take care of themselves.
As always on a Monday I can see lots of ways we can win this. There will be fewer ways to win tomorrow and even less by Wednesday. When Saturday arrives I will only be able to see how we can lose. Always been the same and, at 50, unlikely to change!
