In November, Everton were hit with a ten-point deduction for exceeding permitted losses over a period ending with the 2021/22 season but after appeal this was reduced to six points.

Makes no sense

Because they're likely to appeal. It's messy enough as it is, but imagine if they get relegated by a point. The 2 points is likely to be reduced to 1 on appeal. The other team thinking they're safe and find out after the season has finished that they're actually relegated. Needs finalising before the start of next season as two sides can't start the season without knowing which division they're in.
