#71 is my favourite. That pass from Merlin and the touch and finish from Edin - absolutely stunning.
Cracking player for us for the most part.
Until that final season he was here where he clearly didn’t want to be here, didn’t want to play for Pellegrini or City anymore (his 6 goals all season compared to 26 the season before says it all) and on the final day of the season where the team do a lap of honour he was skulking about at the back not even looking at the fans never mind acknowledging the applause.
He appeared to like us more after he left than that final season he was with us.
Before that season though he was a really important player for us and we wouldn’t have won what we did without him. The late equalising goal at Notts Co, the dominating haul at Spurs, the equaliser against QPR, the opener against Villa (and all his other goals in that run-in).
Three and a half top seasons from him.
The way he was shipped out and replaced with Wilfred Bony was a transfer worthy of City in the 90s.
He wasn't really shipped out. He chose to move, and the club facilitated it really well. It was one of the best examples imo of the club doing right by the player, and vice versa. He signed a contract without hassle at the end of the previous season, when he could have easily held out to see what offers were available to him. And the club took a loan with 14m fee at the end of it from a club he wanted to move to, when they could have easily held out and driven up bids and offers and turned it into a saga. Another reason I don't really buy the sulking claims.
Which is maybe one of the reasons why he has seemed to love the club so much after he left, as someone mentioned, and has at times sounded like a fanboy since, the odd comment about pellegrini here and there aside. Wouldn't be surprised to see him in some club representative role in the future if I'm honest.
I think we tend to forget how many important goals Dzeko scored for us. His prowess in the air was unrivalled, as well — some truly masterful headed and volleyed goals.
And another takeaway from watching them is how well he linked up with Aguero and Tevez, who both were very creative in their own right.
The sixth against United in the Sick Swan will forever be etched in to my mind, along with what I consider to be the best ever assist in PL history by El Mago.
His goal against QPR was pivotal, too, but often lost in recollection for obvious reasons.
Unsung hero for us in my opinion.
