Corluka, we should never have sold him.
Funnily enough, I was at a Petrol Station a couple of years back when I noticed this woman next to me had a t shirt with a photo of Mike Sumerbee on. We got chatting and I said I was a blue (as I guessed she was!) I then mentioned that Sumerbee snr played the first time I saw City . My new City supporting petrol station friend then mentioned he was her dad, I then said I was relieved that I hadn't slagged her brother off then! After a little chuckle she told me that had I done that she would have had to agree with me as he' wasn't very good at City was he' !!! She pretty much implied that at the time he seemed more bothered about going out on the town with 'his little Georgian mate'! but she did say she thought he did pretty well for Sunderland after leaving us!Nicky Summerbee
Only cos I sat next to him on a flight. He was a gent, a good laugh, bought me a couple of drinks and told me a few stories
Since then I’ve always stuck up for him when he gets slagged off
Wanted to play with his mate Modric IIRC.He wanted to join a bigger club. Little did he know….
Good story that mate, cheers.Funnily enough, I was at a Petrol Station a couple of years back when I noticed this woman next to me had a t shirt with a photo of Mike Sumerbee on. Talented but frustrating player when he was with us wasn't he!!
Also a fan of Moulden and McNab. I wouldn't describe Paul as ponderous which implies he was clumsy. He was very skillful but not very quick. I think he just needed a fast, physical strike partner (like Paul Stewart) to really shine.Three very underrated players when we weren't very good.
Paul Moulden seemed ponderous, but came alive in the penalty area.
I'd like to know why Mel Machin (?) really sold him ?
Elano was classy when we seldom had a class player.
Vonky was as tough as he looked. One ugly critter, but seemed to enjoy the hard clashes that were allowed when he played.
I personally admired Neil NcNab - he seemed to carry the team for a fair few seasons.
Always had the ball stuck to his toes, he would get tons of fouls these days...
